Dumbing down the F75

One more thing came to mind. How about using Audio tone adjust to get the F75 to sound closer to your F5.

Oh and love the tip about using AM first to find a clean spot to GB. At a trashy park can be pretty tough. I am going to do that.

Last on another thread they looked at Sensitivity. Even at zero in BP and 6 inch coil you are getting pretty good depth for most parks so do not be afraid to really turn it down. I am planing on trying that my self to see if it will quite the chatter down from the really small stuff.

Yes very good posts on this thread!

Yes there has been some great information shared in this thread, glad I started it! :spin:

I hope this thread has been helpful for others as it has been for me.

Just thought I would share something I experienced today with the LTD2. I have been killing myself trying to get in sync with this new machine. Very erratic tones and ID's no matter what processes or sensitivity. I purchased a new 5 x 10 DD coil for this unit. It arrived yesterday. I took it out for a spin today in a couple sites I have been trying to work with the LTD2 and stock 11" coil. All I can say...completely different machine and an absolute joy to use. It ran completely quiet with absolute minimal falsing. Got fooled by a couple square nails but that usually happens no matter what machine I have.

One of the sites I am searching for an old 1800's fairgrounds location. I haven't nailed it down yet but getting closer. I found 9 fired bullets, ranging through various caliber from .22 to .30 and a musketball, a couple .22 long and one .22 short cases. My trash ratio for this site was 2 bottle caps, a couple square nails and one bent horseshoe nail. Spent maybe an hour and a half here. This site is in close proximity too and under powerlines. I was able to switch frequencies to mitigate EMI and run in BP, 99 sens, 1 disc, 4H tones....perfectly quiet running. The LTD2 hit all targets with minimal TID variation and good tones. If there wasn't any targets the audio was completely silent, had to keep checking to see if it was on. What a pleasant change.

Went to another location looking for some silver and other goodies. Spent maybe 45 minutes there. Found 4 clad quarters, 3 copper pennies, 3 zinc's. Dug a rolled up pull tab at around 8" and another aluminum bottle cap for trash ratio.

This is more like the machine I expected. What a difference, went from a crazy erratic POS to something very solid and predictable.

This unit and coils is headed back to Fisher for the second time come Monday. Pretty sure the coil has been the problem the entire time.

Hope this info helps.

Just call fisher and have them swap out your stock coil.. Your machine seems to be fine with 5x10 coil.. I wouldnt send machine back. Test your small coil to be sure its fine...

Already had it setup to send the entire unit back before I bought and tried the 5 x 10 coil. They sent me a label so off it goes Monday. Hopefully this time they will inspect/calibrate and document, like I asked them to last time I sent it in. If they had, they would have caught this and I wouldn't have spent the last two weeks wondering why I couldn't figure this thing out.

Hey Kenny,

Thanks for sharing the info about the coil. I would like to try one of those coils and see if it would tighten the machine up for me like it did for you.

I have an F5 11" DD coil that I need to get rid of. I bought it and never used it much since it upset the F5 balance, and now with my F75 I no longer need it. Maybe I'll put it up for sale or trade and look into getting a 5x10 DD for the F75. All these great bits of info from everybody is great. I did quite a bit of hunting this weekend. Used the 75 for larger grassy areas, but relied on the F5 for the tot lots and junky areas. I need to force myself to use the 75 only, but it still can get frustrating for me.

EDIT: Kenny can you tell me what coil you got? Is it a Fisher? I looked around online but didn't see a DD in that size, or is it the elliptical concentric?

Thanks again!

Sure Mark....Fishers part number is 10coildd-f75. Not everyone has them. got mine off of EBay from USAdetectors. They shipped it really quick, UPS took their sweet time getting it to me.

I'm really pleased with the coil. Will be a few weeks before I can test it anymore. Just dropped the F75 at FedEx, BACK to TX for calibration. lm on a plane to work for a bit. Hopefully it will be waiting and ready to go when I get back :)

Kenny,

I took your advice and went ahead and got the 5x10 DD coil. It didn't get here till saturday afternoon, so I missed my main hunt with it. I used it on Sunday for a couple of hours and you are right! It's a great coil. Quiet, more accurate TID and it separates great. I was hoping it would be lighter than the 11", but it seems the same. Skims over the turf easily too. One thing I don't like is the white color. It's very bright, and shiny too. So the sun reflecting off of it can be a pain. I need to think of an idea to dull the top of it without really damaging it. I may put some flat black tape on the top, but that sounds messy when it gets damp and dirty. Maybe a flat black paint made for plastics? Not sure yet.

I only tried it at a tot lot and a school that always gives up a lot of clad. Got a pouch full o' coins and it was a pleasure. It's deep too. Got some nickles and pennies way down in the old rotted chip layer in the totter.

Thanks for the recommendation and happy hunting!

Mark

Mark,

Really glad to hear your experience with the 5 x 10 was the same as mine. Keith....on another forum got me started in the direction of buying one. He has some good posts about it and a video with it on the LTD2, I think his youtube is relics1864. I figured I was going to learn the LTD2 or die trying, so I went ahead and ordered one. The couple hours that I got to use it was fantastic, Really enjoyed the demeaner and performance of the coil while mouned to the LTD2.

The solid bottom of the coil works excellent for the areas I mostly hunt. No weeds, sticks or tall grass hanging up in the coil..As far as being bright......mine won;t stay that way long, I rub dirt all over them looking for targets after they are out of the hole. My GPX coils all have a reddish brown tint too them.:)

It will he another week or so before I can run it again (if its back when I get home), Good luck on your hunts. Keep us posted.

Just thought I would add an update...My LTD2 arrived back from Fisher today with a note saying they recalibrated the 11" coil. Huge difference using the 11" coil, it now performs similar to the 10". No more erratic tones woohoo!!! I can also now hear a 6" dime in my test garden, couldn't hear it before. It won't hear it at 6.5", but it will get it at 6" That's pretty good for my hot dirt.
