I bought and added this probe to my MXT and have had several chances to use it now. I could be doing something wrong. But even with brand new batteries and rechecked connections my garrett hand held still seems more sensitive. Is something wrong or is my expectations too high:)

Have you tried to lock your machine in the PP mode then use your probe? I don't have a probe yet but I believe it acts like just another coil just smaller. This is only a guess, but makes sense to me. Good luck and look forward to hearing if that makes a difference.

I cant say personally this model probe but I have had several on several machines and some blow you away with reach and others are not so impressive is what I have found personally I like them when im not trading machines to often for convience but the garrett is good it just interfers with the machine and causes that buzz to anoy people :)
One other thing do you have the machine sens turned up? they work on all the machines settings like a coil the best I understand.
Good Luck

[size=large]i had bought my mxt pro with a probe already attached. it takes some gitting used to. it is not as sensitive all around as the garrett is. i also found myself hunting half a field before i realized i hadn't switched the probe back to off. did that twice. you watch enough videos and you can see the probe is limited as to depth and surroundings. it doesn't get the reach of the garrett. i personally found it to be less effective than my garrett and sold it. i found my targets faster and with-out question there was something in the hole. even a small BB. i often wondered if some put them probes on their machines cause they thought it was cool or made them a better mder cause i sure couldn't get mine to pick up near as well as the garrett.even though it did cause noise from the detector. actually the garrett only interfeared with my mxt. not any of my other machines. to close to the same freq.

Locking pinpoint when using the pinpointer is a good point. I havn't tried it yet but will. I am wondering what it does to ground tracking. I would think ground tracking would be back to normal within a few swings anyway.

Its a good practice to lock the ground and only update with the 'ground grab' button or if you do not have the Pro just flip the trac button to ground then back to lock. If you don't lock the ground, faint targets that you swing over a couple times appear to be ground mineral and fade with every swing. The first swing over them you might hear a faint sound but then each swing after will be quieter until it is phased out by the automatic ground balance. If your not into digging deep faint signals, the shallow strong signals are not detected as ground minerals and are not affected by the automatic ground balance. I prefer to listen for those deep goodies and not have the detector phase them out.

I have MXT with the DX1 and get a signal at about 4 inches for coins. But I don't usually get a VDI reading until it gets to about 2 inches from the probe. I leave the unit in Coin / Jewelry mode when I use the probe.

I know Whites can take care of the problem. Good chatting with you and getting to the bottom of the problem. Keep us posted and HH, Nancy

The DX-1 on my older MXT blows away any handheld, including the Garrett, that I've had experience with.

I totally agree with you Bill.
