E-Trac Gold Ring Signals

I am expecting my E-Trac in the next day or two and have been reading all the information I can find on the Minelabs. I am a sworn GTI 2500 guy but last year we vacationed and beach hunted for a week, going back this year and wanted to add a machine because my son is now 14 and showing an interest in detecting.
We vacationed with friends and their uncle has used MineLab for the last several years and his beach finds with the Explorer SE Pro. were outstanding so that got me to looking.
Has anyone had the E-Trac long enough to find several gold rings and or jewelry and if so what are the most common ranges in Fe -Co #'s. My wife has many gold rings etc. and I plan on air testing all of them to show a range to be mentally prepared but any help/suggestions are welcomed. I am ready for vacation NOW ! tired of the nasty weather.

Good information and I appreciate it very much. I can't wait to get the E-Trac and put it to some good use. I will run some tests on my wife and mother in law's rings and see what I come up with also.

I used Garretts for many years in the Uk and found plenty of gold rings with them but i have to say the Etrack is a much better allrounder with superb capabilities especially in all metal.Gold rings can fall in to various areas on the screen as there is a vast amount of sizes and desighns gold content etc etc its nearly impossible to know if its gold ot not.You will basically after time and many hours of using the Et be able to identufy most good diggable signals.It is a common mistake to go by numerical reading alone when using minelab detecvtors and especially the Etrac.

I think most folks know that gold is a crapshoot. The only thing that the numbers (bench tests) are good for are to familiarize a new user to the machine's responses to a set of targets. Although the test results do not always mimic real-world target responses, they do provide a starting point upon which to build further observations. Becoming proficient in the art of detecting and knowing how targets of different composition, size, shape and orientation react is the goal. Time in the field and a lot of digging is the only true way to achieve this goal, but there is nothing wrong with some general target data to get you started as long as it is understood that many factors can influence a signal.
