E-Trac lost all sound today - Any ideas?

I've only had this machine a couple months and love it. While using it today the audio started getting a static sound and finialy went totally silent. I tried changing battery packs and that didn't help. Everything else seems to work, just no sound. Any ideas on how to fix this before I have to send it in to be fixed? Thanks

If you unplug the headset and wave a coin under the coil does it make a sound? If yes, your headset may be bad. If you have a different type of headset than what came with the detector, check the toggle buttons on the headset. One may take you out of compatibility mode with the E-Trac.

Can you hear the threshold at all? Is it turned down too low?

Is the threshold pitch turned down too low? Turn it up to 18 and see if you hear anything.

Is the volume limit turned down too low? Turn it up to 30 and see if you hear anything.

Is the volume gain turned down too low? Turn it up to 30 and see if you hear anything.

Set the tone ID to Long with conductive and multi tones selected.

Is your entire screen blacked out? Go to the quick mask screen and open up the entire screen (no discrimination) and test again

Just a few ideas. Hope you figure it out. Good luck.

Joedirt, thanks for the info. I was not using the headset when the sound went out. The detector makes no sound at all. Your post reminded me to plug the headset in and see if I could hear any tones through them. All tones come through loud and clear on the headset. This makes me think the detectors speaker is bad or there may be a loose connection to the speaker. I'll probably have to send it in to be fixed.

I wouldn't worry about the speaker as long as the headphones work.

Years ago I had the same thing happen, it ended up being a piece of dirt in the head phone plug preventing either the speakers or head phones from working. I took the batteries out and turned the machine upside down and tapped it in the hole plug area and all worked fine.

If the headphones work just use it until winter sets in then send it in that way you won't be missing as much hunting time...unless there is a warranty timing issue.

Try a master reset...nothing to lose....software does get corrupted from time to time...

i read warranty yesterday and on mine in uk it says it has to be returned within certain time of fault appearing so watch if you do wait until winter you dont say happened in may WHOOOOOPS
