E TRAC or AT PRO

swjdgl

New member
HI.I'm new to this site but i've been detecting for 15 years and i'm looking to get an e trac.I'm looking at the at pro also.I hunt a lot of old home sites that have a lot of iron.I want a detector thats good around iron. What do you think?Etrac or AT PRO?I know theres lots of iron in some spots on my sites that would make the e trac null almost all the time but would good signals still be able to come through the nulling?I'm leaning more towards the e trac but wanted to see what you think first. Thanks for any help you can give.
Scott

Hey Scott, If you look around this site a little you will see many post about how good the e-trac is around iron especially with the two tone ferrous setting. Also I think the number of finds on this site speak for themselves. The other thing you must realize is your on the e-trac forum so I think you can imagine what most people here are going to say, including me. I'm sure if you go on the garret site you will get opposite results. Good luck and HH.

I have both and enjoy using both E-Trac and AT Pro. But my opinion is the AT pro would be easier for a person new to detecting. Also on the E-Trac i like using TTF in iron laden sites.

I laugh when I read this, people are always saying the etrac is hard to learn....that is SO FAR FROM THE TRUTH. A newbie could take an etrac right out of the box, put it in coin mode and not change a single setting and start finding coins in five minutes.......the etrac is THAT EASY.

I also have both E-Trac and At Pro, they are both very easy to use.. But for the cost and being a new user I would have to roll with the At Pro..

I would most definitely agree. Within 5min of assembling it I was finding change in my front yard. Just in the basic coin mode alone I found over twelve dollars in change in two days just in the yards around my house. And the 2 tone ferous mode you don't have to worry about the nulling. And if you have a problem with using it, in this forum alone there is enough users here with hands on practical knowledge that can get you up to speed quick. Oh and don't forget to get Andy Sabisch's book.
Ok, IMO, do you want a $500 machine that has been made to what the programmers wrote or do you want a $1500 machine that you can program to exactly what you want it to do, write and save your own programs for wherever you want to hunt, the ability to check a metal's ferous and conductive makeup for a better idea of what you are about to dig, and use the headphones you want lol jk? Now I know the Etrac is not a waterproof machine, but if I wanted a water submersible machine that's what I would have bought. There is tons more literature, programs, extras, forums, videos, books, owners with know how, on the Etrac. If money is an issue get the ATPro it is one the newest and best for $500. I don't honestly think there is a better machine out there at that price. But if money is not, the Etrac is a $1500 machine that is exactly that, a $1500 machine, that has the power, versatility, quality, stability, and craftsmanship that is worth every penny. In the instance you get what you pay for. Apples and Oranges,, or should I say Steak. Good luck! GH

Terry i did not say the E-Trac was hard to learn, are you saying you can take a new person and put the E-Trac in factory coin mode and throw him into an iron laden site?

Frank, I do not believe you can take a new person with any detector and throw them in a iron infested site without some difficulty. Just mho. HH.
