E-Trac Pin Pointing - Normal or Sizing ?

E-Trac-Ohio

Well-known member
It's to cold to go hunting today - so I'm putting a few posts up on the forum instead.

An very experienced user told me that he likes using the "Sizing" mode setting on the E-Trac pin pointer - much more than the "Normal" mode setting.
I've only used the "Normal" setting to date.

Just wanted to ask what advantages and disadvantages you guy's have found with each of these pin pointing modes ?

Thanks ! --- Mark

The main difference between sizing and normal is that in normal the point of the find diminishes with each pass, in sizing it stays the same and helps determin if its a large target or small(this depends on the distance you are from the target when you push the button) changing direction in sizing can tell you the shape, ie maybe longer in one direction than the other in the case of say a knife or key

In Sizing mode, the Etrac is basically an all-metal detector. In Normal mode, pass the coil back and forth over the target and the signal continues to de-sensitize with each pass, ultimately providing one single small signal in the very center of the coil.

I have used sizing since day one. Des Dunne of minelab also likes sizing best. If target is too large I d-tune while over the target.

im a sizing guy myself. it helps me tell when i have a can or long shaped junk target. i tried normal the first month i had it but didnt like it.
i can tell a coin sized target even at depth compared to a can or something.
