E-Trac Power problems???

Yesterday I got to go out a dig a little with DrBob and I noticed a problem I've never seen. While digging a hole as always my machine was on the ground next to me while I was using my SunRay Probe after I was finished and switched back to the coil I started to get up my machine made a series of low beeps each one getting lower and the screen flashed a warning or "power overload" and then shut off. The battery was fully charged when I started just 30 minutes prior to this warning. After I turned it back on all seemed to work properly. Hunted for a couple of hours and again when I was getting up from a hole the screen went blank and a series of beeps started again; this time they were steady beeps I hit the power button and the screen popped back on and worked fine the rest of the hunt. Has anyone else had any problems like this? just wondering if I may have problems coming on the horizon. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Nope, no problems with mine so far. How old is your E-Trac, and X1 probe? Have you tried contacting the service center or Sunray to see if this is a known problem?

Does it happen when you snap the x-1 back in it's holder?? the reason i ask is on my explorerII i snaped the probe back in and the battery pack went bad ,the connection on the inside got loose.try your other battery pack that takes reg batteries. the reason i know the battery pack was bad is i tore it apart and fixed it. (when your having your problem it is with the rechargable isnt it ??)

I had kinda the same thing happen to me
But one of my cells was dead.

Mine at times has made the start up sound when it gets bumped. Sometimes just the slightest bump will put mine back in a restart / startup sequence. I'm thinking mine may be related to the springs in the battery compartment not making a strong connection with the battery.

I had the exact same problem when DrBob came up and hunted with me last summer.I think he has some sort of electronic jamming device he uses on the machines of those he hunts with  Just kidding as he is a great guy to hunt with but then again you just never know.................:rofl:Actually it sounds battery related to me as well,Ray.

they may have something to do with a shorting out of wires regarding the search coil/ sr probe. Also, on all of the Explorer line of detectors, there would also be a loss of any user made reject accept patterns when the wires of the search coil would cross and short. A quickly depleted battery was also common. I found this out mainly with some of the modifications and some involuntary experiments(mistakes) I made while creating my own switch box for the Sunray X-1 and other coils. Haven't had to worry about the problems any longer with the Etrac because I fixed them all up prior.

I think it's most likely a connection shorting that is associated with the probe switch box or anywhere along the line of the search coil connection up to the Etrac control box. Highly unlikely the problem is inside the Etrac control box, though that can't be entirely discounted until you've isolated the problem with the following.

Dis-connect the Etrac control box from the the upper search stem and if possible connect a coil to the Etrac directly without going through the probe switch box to test it out. If there is STILL a problem then you may have a defected connection on the coil or a "dodgey" coil or the Etrac needs to be looked at.

Hope it works out for you.

Thanks guys that gave me some things to look at. I'll get into it and let you know If I find anything thanks for the help

I've had this problem a couple of times too(no sunray conected) if it happens again switch off before it switches itself of and it will start ok, if you let it switch of by itself i got the same message when switching on, havn't founfd the problem yet as it happens very rarely
