E-trac vs X-terra

jimz49 said:
If FBS is the key, then maybe the question is explorer vs e-trac, especially some of the earlier explorers. Can an explorer II or the early explorer se (non pro) hold their against the e-trac?
Jimz all Exolorers are basicaly the same, not faster and not slower, they are very close to etrac if you know how to use them, but much more slower then Etrac if you use discrimination. <from my experience explorer and etrac are better then Extera.

The e-Trac can cover bad ground a bit faster than the explorers because of the faster processors. The auto + numbers are a very good step up in m opinion!

Well, it seems the consensus of the various opinions has given the edge to the e-trac. I guess it makes sense. The e-trac has more adjustments, is multi-frequency vs one frequency and if price is a measuring stick of performance, costs more. With that said, the one big plus that I give to the x-terra over the e-trac is its transportability. What I mean by that is it can be broken own into its individual parts and makes a very compact package for transporting. and that brings me to my other hobby. In addition to metal detecting, I like to do outings on my motorcycle. Often time travelling several hundred miles in a day. Along those routes are some very interesting (potential) sites. When packing gear on a motorcycle, the key is light and compact. So here is an idea for Minelab.....Design your next e-trac along the lines of the x-terra. Removable head, lightweight materials and can easily be broken down and packed into a small camping bag. now that's what I'm talking about.

I've often wondered about the difference between the two myself. The last couple of times out I have carried both, as well as my Goldbug 2. What I have seemed to find is that the 9 volt detectors just seem a bit deeper than the Xterra. I'm not positive but I feel strongly enough that I just listed my X70 with all the Minelab coils for trade or sale. I'm more inclined to use the higher voltage machines and they do just seem a bit deeper. Probably just me and not the detectors but I do get about the same depths out of the GB 2 and the Etrac, whereas the Xterra over the same targets at times won't register... BUT! and this is the biggest answer to this dilemma. Goes4ever was one of the most voracious Xterra hunters I know and he now use's the Etrac.... it sounds as though Digger has both too. I guarantee all here that in my limited time on the forum that these two are tirelessly blowing me away in their use of both detectors and I defer to them....
