earphone problem

I have owned my GTP 1350 for about two years and have found thousands of coins, many Civil War buttons, bullets and other misc. good finds . I am totally happy with the 1350, however I am having a problem with the headphone connection. It seems to sometimes stop receiving a signal from the detector. I have tried four different headphones with the same results. Recently when I plug in my headphones, I receive a signal through the headphones and the speaker on the detector. What gives and how can I fix it? I don't want to send my detector back to Garrett because I do not have a backup and I hunt every day for an hour or two and it is almost Spring in VA.
Thank You in advance for the advise.
Your Friend,

If your having the same results with multiple headsets, then it sounds to me a possible problem with the machine headset jack. They are nothing but a make -break contact to the machine speaker circuit. If cleaning with an inserted Q-Tip doesn't do the trick (spun in direction to keep the material intact), with a shot of contact cleaner, could be a possible cold solder or loose connection, worse yet a problem with the audio driver circuit.
Just an off-head shot.

I agree with what tab=nabit thinks. A removal of the control cover should expose the plug-jack connection. You wll possibly find a poor wire to jack soldering.
If so it is an easy fix for either yourself or your local radio repair shop.

On the ear phone problem . I have a new Ace 250 and only used it once. And a back up of a BH. Lone Star . Both have ear phones. But the BH. has a volume control in the phone line , the Ace doesnt. Is there any way to control the volume on the Ace? Can I put a Volume control on the head phones of the Ace somehow ?

If the plug is faulty going to have to make a trip back to Garrett for repair all mentioned could surely cause the problem but switches do go and have to be replaced. Wish you luck and might contact Garrett as their service after the sale is great....you won't be talking to a phone operator that don't know a detector from a broom as with spme potfits but someone that knows detectors and do have backup if they don't have the answer to the particuliar question...

a seperate in-line volumn control unit is available from Radio shack (so I have read). It sounds as if a jack that fits your ace will be needed to be installed on one end of the control wiring and a female jack will be needed to be put onto the other end into which your erphone plugs into.
It was written that it was a pretty inexpensive unit.
