Easter weekend silver

I went out on a couple of hunts to a new place. I had made my research before and from what I had read the area might hold promise. This place being an old school yard, there was a ton of trash and recently dropped clad making the detector sound like a machine gun. It was difficult to make sense of all the signals the detector was picking up. I picked up my share of clad but I decided after awhile to start cherry picking the higher conductor signals only and only those that were deeper than 2 inches (v-break at 6:geek:. Well lo and behold out comes my first flying eagle quarter ! I know for you guys this might not be anything special but for somebody north of the border, it was rather unexpected and very welcomed. A few minutes later, I uncovered a simple and tiny silver ring. Everything else (except for the square nail and 1940 penny) was found nearer to the surface. The little war horse seems to be made out of lead. It's very heavy for such a small toy. The ugly bling chain almost gave me a heart attack. When I started digging it out I thought it was gold of course but the blackened bits made me realize it was junk.

I think I'll go back with my F5 one of these days. I only did about one tenth of the entire area.

They are out there, its all just being in the right place.
My dad said if he had the choice of good vs lucky, he'd take lucky any day.
Seems a good detector though, made you both.

That's a nice find right there Mike, most of those type quarters you can't read the date because of how it's designed but yours is nice and clear.

Thanks guys. I'm anxious to go back. The F5 could help me out with the multi tones I usually use for silver. No need to constantly look at the VDI. The F19 does pretty good on turf though. I usually use it almost exclusively on sand. Also, I meant to write V-Break at sixty eight but for some reason it put a smiley face instead of the last number !

That is a good one.. definitely a keeper

Nice find on the SLQ. As was mentioned they are very hard to find with a readable date. Congrats!

I'll second that ! Standing LIberty Quarters (SLQ's) are often found in pretty SLICK condition. Beautiful coins though and I do like the 'flying' eagle back as well.

Congrats,

Rich

What's peculiar is that the ratio of Canada vs USA coins where I hunt is about 10 to 1 and that only accounts for pennies. I find the occasional modern USA clad at the beach. At this particular area I found much more USA pennies than usual and my first USA silver coin (and not the shabbiest one !). I'm not sure why the ratio is so different but I'll have to find out. Funny how much metal detecting can make us learn what happened historically in a given area.
