Eight wheat's, silver, IH cent, and a RAF cap badge.

I have been trying to get permission to MD an old house, but the people weren't home. I MD'ed a tot lot in a poor neighborhood instead. A really bad idea. It was all wet clay and grass. I decided to go to the "wheat field." When I first MD'ed it, the field was dry. It has rained for the last three days.
That was a good idea. The digging was easier and the targets started coming. I got one silver.

I got one 1887 Indian Head cent.

This is my favorite. It is a cap badge from the Royal Air Force. It has a king's crown on it which means it is from 1901 to 1952. Some of the crowns vary and I can't get an exact date on it. They sell for 10 to 15 pounds. Cool find for the mountains of WV.

The total: eight wheat's, 1910, 1916, 1918, 1919, 1920, 1942, 1945, and 1946. Lead soldier, lantern top and that knobby thing on bottom was a fun dig. They had big field stones as a side walk. It was underneath the stone. I was hoping it was a Barber.

Nice finds. Really nice! Love the RAF badge.

You sure are putting in a lot of hours detecting this year. I can't wait to see your totals. They should be awesome. Pretty darn good for such a low cost ( but not cheap) detector. I remember the first few hunts at your new town. They were pretty dismal. Now look at your hunts.....incredible!!! Just keep those finds a coming. :)

John, those are some fantastic finds. Save some for me.:detecting:

That is a laugh. When they start the next phase of tearing down the 40+ demo-ed houses. I will have more places to MD than I will have time. Plus, I still have a log cabin site on a hill that I got permission to MD and a big CW encampment just down the road. The historical sociality gave me permission to MD there property, but it's only an 1912 home. The sociality president wants me to MD her 100+ year old home. A friend of my mother wants me to MD her place. My aunt wants me to find her lost wedding ring on some private land, I have to coordinate that with my aunt and the owner. Any dirt road you drive down there is a log cabin or an old home. I have a 1920 topo of old schools I haven't checked them all out yet. I have been waiting for the weather to warm up to check out a place where white water rafters disembark from the river and is an old swimming hole. I bought a pair of those rubber shoes to protect my feet for water hunting. I need a water Ace. For a quickie hunt there is always tot lots. I will be starting work and will be getting my grandkids soon. It just takes time to follow all the leads.
If I don't leave you any, you can always find you own. I'll let you use my topo or you can knock on a few doors.
Leads are just like fishing holes, some look good and some are good.
some nice loot there, weird place for an raf pin to wind up though.
A lot of Americans joined England to fight the Germans before we got into the war. Due to the general lack of employment in WV. it has a very high rate of enlistees in the armed forces.

My totals as far as coin count will never be high, because I don't like digging clad pennies. I will not pass up digging a cent, but I like the older stuff. Old places don't have the coin totals of a park nor will I find jewelry. Some old places I am lucky to get a few cents. I do have a 112 wheat's so far this year. I am over half way to my total for wheat's last year.

As far as the detectors goes, I had to get use to it in WV. soil. Fla's soil was very tame. I have had to learn to adjust to it at every site here in WV. It seems like the first thing I lose is my ID. At old sites, I dig it all. I had a cent come in at nickel and a nickel came in at cent. Pull tab notch is a favorite hit of mine. I get my tokens there and the notch above. Also a lot of shot gun shells. Rusty iron has a distinct print. If it stops bouncing from iron to cent, it is a cent on deep targets.
My next detector will have ground balance and a few more inches of depth.
I'll be at my sister's lake house in NC. this week end to celebrate my mother's birthday. I will be in the middle of gold country. I won't have much time to MD, but I'll see how the Ace responds there. There is an old gold mine in the woods near her house where the tailings haven't been touched. Big mounds of earth with vegatation on top.

Sure looks like you 'll have a busy summer on Detecting . Interesting old finds.:detecting:
