Eliptical or round DD. Which shape better?

Here is the deal. I am getting me a safari. I have a specific site in mind. Actually two sites. Old Farmsteads..and the trashiest sites I have ever hunted. Anyway, looking to get a small accelerator coil from Kellyco, unless I can find a used one from someone here on finds. So am trying to figure out which one to get
Looking at the 4.5 x 7 eliptical DD or the round 6 inch DD. You guys think there would be any better seperation betwen one or the other? Would one or the other work better?

Opinions guys? or gals....dont want to leave out the lady detectorists...
 
I own both the 4.5x7 and the 6"DD two very good coils,the 4..5x7 I use in the woods,it is great for searching in between tree roots and undergrowth,the 6" DD I use in more open trashy areas, for the two sites you are intending to search I would consider the 6" DD , it hits hard on coins and has good seperation and pinpoints very good . I can also run my Quattro hot with either of the two coils. Hope this helps.Good Luck. Les.
 
Although I don't yet have a small coil for my Safari, I have read a lot of favorable reports of the 6x8 SEF coil on the Explorer and E-Trac forums.
That's the next coil on my shopping wish list.

Thanks guys. Both of the coils have their pluses for sure. Will likely end up getting them both, but can only get one at a time. I think I will get the 6 inch round first. Most of my detecting is going to be in more open areas and specifically going after coins.

MXT (White's) and they both did quite well. Of the two, I prefer the 4
 
Monte, yea, I have to admit your logic makes sense. I thought I had decided....but now am thinking again. :shrug: I hate decisions...:confused:
 
I use a Sun-Ray X-5 on my Safari and it works great. I have'nt heard anyone complain about any of the small coils. You just have to go super slow but the X-5 goes deep and is great around those chainlink fences. That is the only small coil I have for my Safari. Hope this helps with your decision. HH :minelab:
 
Hi HH, going to check out that sunray X5 coil. I havent looked at them much before, so am not really familiar with them. Will check them out. And cant say I have really decided yet, but you did give me another option to look at. Thanks.
 
Going to check them out. In the meantime, have gotten an used accelerator 6 inch. Chanced on it at a good price and went ahead and got it. Wont have it till thursday or friday. But thats ok. Gives me time to do my research on the sunray coils.

Excelerator coils are excellent - you can't go wrong there - i have the 12x10 SEF, and think it is excellent. If you read around the different forums most people love them. Let us know how you like it.

Yea, that is what I have heard. Never bought one before, not even for one of my other detectors. Just going light though as much as I can. Since I have been having to go to lighter machines, the coils too make a difference. I just traded/sold my DFX and GTI 2500 for lighter machines. Not top ends so I have lost somewhat but I think I will be happy. The Safari is one I am going to enjoy, for sure. Stilll waiting on it to get here and am anxious for sure. Also have an Omega 8000 coming so its going to be a fun time comparing them. Urtimately will get rid of one or the other down the road...maybe..I dont know. I do have a Xterra 705 that I like. Its light and works very well. But I have always liked the multi frequiency detectors like the Safari, since I owned a Soveriegn XS years ago. No meter, nothing, but that was a great detector. I found some great stuff with that machine. But I ended up having to sell it to pay bills. But I never forgot it. But for some reason I went to defferent detectors later on. Dont know why. But decided to go ahead and get the safari when I needed to go lighter though the safari isnt as light as my XTerra. I figure to maybe get one of those swingy thingy's to help make up the difference. Its still lighter than what my DFX and 2500 were.

Well, got off the topic here, didnt I. My own topic no less. :surprised:.. Oh well...I will get over it. My thread anyway. I think though I might start one doing a heads up comparison of the three detectors I will now have. Actually more because I have my water detector as well.
 
you'll most likely part with the X-Terra 705. I've parted with several models from my personal detector battery to trim the detector weight. The Safari will be, for me, a part-time "silver shooter" when working older-use parks and similar sites. Sure, I'll use it at some other locations, but due to my bad back and leg and shoulder, weight is an issue. The Omega, with all three coils, has replaced most of my other detectors for general purpose duty. Right now, I think the Omega 8000 and Safari make a very good 2-detector battery.

Its possible though I do like it alot. Got the Omega today. Came too late for me to take it out and try it but got it together and did a little bit of air testing. The thing is sensitive. Had to dial it down to do the air tests. Not going to go into it here since this is the Safari forum, but I do like it so far. My Safari should be here in a couple of days so looking forward to getting it and trying it out. Going to take it to a "friendly" park to try it. One that isnt trashy or anything...just so I can try it out and learn a bit on it without having to dig a bunch of trash. I do figure the Safari is going to make a killer coin shooter. The Omega..I dont know. I just dont have any experience with Teknetics or Fisher like I do with Minelab stuff. So I will see.
