Elite question...........

Eric

New member
It seems that the elite is less popular then the older sovereigns or the GT. But why? I asume the performance is the same?

Thanks, Eric.

The performance is on par with the rest of the Sovs.

It has a painted control housing so it scratched easy.

Some of the knobs had their settings/adjustments switched around from the "usual" sov layout.

The Elite did come with the new control housing which has the newest battery setup, although I believe it did not come with nimh batteries but they were optional. That battery is a great improvement over the old two setups.

I have used all the different Sovereigns and the main reason I didnt like the Elite was the controls were in a different position than any of the other Sovereigns were. This cause many of us the adjust the wrong control when needed as we went by position of control without looking at them. Another reason is I found that my targets sounded deeper then they actually were which was not good for me and my bad hearing.
With the GT I find they put the controls back where we can gain access to them from memory of the older Sovereigns and find that the deeper targets now sound not as deep as they are. I also find if you are well experienced with the Sovereigns you will see the GT is a bit more sensitive as it will false on iron a bit easier which is easy to overcome by checking the signal from more than one direction as iron will move or null out. The ID on the deeper targets seem to be better too with the GT which many are seeing.
The Elite is a good detector too, but to me the GT is a bit better while the XS and the XS2 were the no nonsense turn on and go detector with only the controls you needed to find great finds.
All the models of the Sovereign are great and some prefer one model over the other, me I like the GT and the XS and XS2 over the others.

I agree Rick, I feel my old tired XS goes just about as deep as my GT with identical coils. Tried an Elite, didn't like it at all, it almost seemed like a different machine. I don't know if it was just the unit I had, but there was a lot more background noise, I would never buy another for that reason alone. The frequency shift on the GT is handy sometimes but other then that I'm happy using either machine!

Just my 2 cents,

Bob
