Etrac all metal

New member
Hi just got my etrac and someone has suggested that I use it in all metal, 2 tone ferrous, could someone please tell me is the quick mask screen the all metal screen or is it to be found elsewhere Thanks for looking

Hi chippy, I'm also fairly new to the e-trac and this websight is a wealth of knowlege. There are all kinds of post on running the e-trac and also TTF. I think you always want to run some disc. if for nothing else to eliminate iron falsing. Also TTF. takes some getting used to and is best suited for iron trashed sites where there are good targets masked by iron. As far as quick mask you can add or subtract disc. from it and open it up to all metal if you want. You might want to start with the stock coin program or andy's coin program untill you get use to your machine. If your going to run TTF. you can use the stock relic program and disc. out the top line from 01/01 ferrous over to 01/31. The e-trac is a amazing machine right out of the box, I would suggest just hunting with it and learning it and the rest will come. Good luck and HH.

hi...i just got my etrac a month ago...having a blast....get andy's book that everyone is talking about....its the best...i've been experimenting with everything...but i like using the quick mask button....if i hear a break in the nulling i go back and push that great little button....i look at all the numbers....i go really slow over each one....i also use pitch hold....then if i see a good number i dig it....it just happened this morning....there was this huge silence....so i went over the area slowly and saw a 12 fe and dug down and came up with a cool locket...there was a ton of iron around it so i never would have known it was there if i wasnt listnening.....i also did the same thing sunday and came up witha child size gold bracelet....really awesome...it never registered on the screen....but again with the quick mask button i found it....with a lot of digging i might add...in the dark...lol....have fun ginger

What type of areas are you hunting and what type of targets are you looking for? Mainly Relics?, Coins?, Jewelry,. There are times to use TTF and times I sure wouldn't. Need just a little more info Chippy?

NebTrac

PS. if you don't already have it Andy Sabisch's book "The Minelab Explorer and E-Trac handbook" is pretty much a must read!

This should really be in the classroom forum....

I suggest you read read read... all posts about every little thing. Check out the classroom forum here, and also check out other website forums. Researching and employing these methods in the field is the best way to learn.

Anyways, you will find mixed opinions on the TTF thing, I for one do not like using it - and I have successfully pulled old coins out of iron patches without it.

As far as All Metal.... certainly helpful for analyzing targets. I use an All Metal quick mask along with Andy's discrimination pattern, with great success!

For more trashy areas... try a more tighter discrimination pattern, like coin mode.

Good luck and HH.

i'm mainly looking for old coins....my partner and i are up to over 35 1700's and 1800's....but i did find a gold bracelet that i thought was plated....had it cleaned....its solid gold...i am so excited....i hunt in old fields and cellar holes...we have maps from 1790 to 1870 for our area...did a lot of research and became best buddy's with the historical society...lol...i'm new to this hobbie and have only had the etrac for a month...before that was the se...i run it preset mode and then i play with all the buttons until i find what works....i use my ears and brain....i've learned so much on this forum and andy's book....it's my new bible...lol...i'm still trying to figure out why there are two differnt trash modes... one is in user mode and the other in expert.....i'm reading about it right now....when i do come to a null in the machine i go back over it with he quick mask and read all the numbers.....if the fe and co are good i dig it...theres no use in pinpointing in a iron littered field...just grabs onto the iron....thats all i'll really learned so far...i have a long way to go still...i havent even tried out the discrimination screen yet....to busy metal detecting....lol.....ginger
