Etrac and the Sun Ray X-1 Probe

For all the Etrac users that also use the X-1 probe, I have a question. Do you ever have detuning issues when switching back and forth between the coil and probe?

Do you mean the "X-1"? I think the DX-1 is for White's machines.

Yes X-1, sorry, I modified my post.
Thank You

Never had a problem with mine - can you explain what you mean by "detuning"?

Yes I have, but only when I don't follow the instructions that came with the X-1 probe. I really like the probe and it works great.

The only thing I have ever noticed is if I switch from probe to coil while it is still in pinpoint mode it will respond like it's reading a target. Other than that I haven't noticed any differences.

Only thing I have notice is if you don't go back to target after using the probe, I get a sweet silver sound when
the probe end passes near my belt buckle!

Agree. But I need to get a bigger belt buckle because my problem is not hearing any target for a couple of minutes before realizing that I didn't flip the switch.

I detune mine all of the time by placing the probe in the hole before turning it on - then you have a shorter detection range when you want to locate objects with more precision. This also helps if you are in highly mineralized ground and it is noisy. Another thing that is important to note regarding the x-1 probe is that if you switch it into pinpoint mode and wait for 10-20 seconds - you will get a huge increase in depth. Sometimes the machine will freak out and you will have to turn pinpoint mode on and off again, but this increase in depth can be very useful and is worth learning to do.

Interesting! I will have to try those out on my next hunt.
