Etrac detection of coins versus other items

I believe the etrac is the best detector handsdown for coins. In fact, it's so good on coins (the design electronics) that the etrac seems to struggle with the exact location of items not shaped like coins. The same can be said of the pinpoint function too. The only other detector I've used is the vlf detector whites v3i. What I notice is coins on edge can be slightly dodgy in their location when detecting and pin pointing with the etrac, but items that are cylindrical or odd shaped give the etrac fits -not in their detection but in location. I don't see this as much so when using v3i. I really think the computer software/program design/makeup of the etrac is the reason. I'm not complaining mind you, just pointing out my experience. I, after getting a target signal that is usually representative of a specific coin can usually tell when digging (before retrieval) most of the time if it's coin or not by how far the target is off the pinpoint/detected spot in the ground. Does anyone else notice this??

I've noticed it at the beach, but that is to be expected because of the conditions. It also happens when I have a medium to large target near the surface,i.e, like a tin soda can. In this case, it sometimes gives off multiple signals. The rest of the time it's pretty close.

Good post! The more you use ir the more it will come to you. Did you try both pin point modes?

Without a doubt!

I keep my E-Trac for one reason and that is finding those extremely deep coins in our city park. For all the other hunting I've tried it is average at best. I use my DFX for everything else. The E-Trac doesn't like freshly plowed ground or fluffy ground at all. Not the best trait for a relic detector. You don't hear much about the E-Trac at the beach. I assume it does OK just nothing spectacular. You also don't hear it being used as a prospector either. I know it makes a terrible tot lot machine. So basically it is a coin machine. One heck of a coin machine at that and worth every penny to keep just for hunting those deep old coins. For that I believe it has no equal.

I guess I don't have that problem at all, and I also use my etrac in plowed fields all fall, it still gets great depth on plowed dirt. I hit a saeted dime at almost 9" last week. In november I hit a token about the same depth in a field as well with my 6x8 coil. So not sure why people say the etrac doesn't like plowed fields. Works perfect for me!
