Etrac Question on Threshold & Pitch

Hi to the board.

Even though I'm new here I have detected in the past and I have just upgraded a week ago, I have now joined the Etrac family (my former unit was an Xterra705) A Threshold question for some of the more experienced Shooter's on the board. I have reset my machine a couple of times since I bought it. I noticed that even after the reset, my threshold hum will quit moving once I move the coil back & forth....the only time it hums is if I raise it or stop..... there is isn't much trash in my yard. it seems to do this on the factory coin settings and another setup I have been using.

I have checked my connections, cleaned from under the coil & Coil cover, is this normal? my xterra 705 always seems to hum more often, suggestion, & thoughts, Thanks.

Also, I noticed that my unit won't even pick up a silver dime on edge in my yard about 6 inches deep..... I buried it a week ago. and when it does pick it up, it read's like 17-46, the Quarter as well. is this because the soil is still disturbed?

Is it a new machine? Check it several places. See if you get same results at different locations.

2 questions.

1. Where are you running your sensitivity - Auto or Manual?

2. More importantly what is your "Suggested sensitivity"?

Try running your coil a little faster over the dime.

To me it doesn't seem like anythings wrong with the machine. In my experience what you seeing, is what I've found hunting in the following types of situations:

A. Too high of a manual sensitivity (yes this can happen in auto also, but mostly in manual).

B. Too high of a manual sensitivity when there is deep iron, or a lot of mineralization.

C. The 17-46 (dime on edge) would seem about right when any of the above 2 scenerios are present. Try running your coil a little faster over the dime. Sweeping briskly in about 1 inchs "back and forth" wiggles.

When your threshold blanks out try putting it in all metal (open screen with no discrimination).and see if you get alot of low gruntting, indicating there is actually metal(iron) in the ground. The e-trac might be picking up deep iron in your yard other detectors did not. good luck and HH.

Thanks for the input, I think I have it figured out. I took down my Sensitivity alittle bit and it seems to be humming along. as far as the dime goes, I went out tonight and tried it again. picked it up better this time. it's been raining here where I live and I went out after it stopped. I think the soil being recently disturbed might have had something to do with it with not being able to hit that dime better. along with USER ERROR! LOL
