As promised to post, these silver coins I found came from two old parks here in central Illinois. My first silver find with my Etrac was the 1857 seated quarter and was only 4 inches down,a real screamer! The seated 1871 half was almost on edge about 8 inches down in a mixture of rock and clay. I was really stunned. Walking Liberty half ,7 inches and screamin at my ears. My most memorable find in silver was the newer looking 1876 seated quarter found in only 5 inches of partially frozen clay- black dirt mix, FEB.2011. This coin I believe is almost AU.After realizing what it was ,I just kinda flopped back on my tail and admired the coin not caring if the ground was wet with light snow! The most puzzling find was the 1892 Barber quarter dug 5 inches down and getting a12-48 meter reading. After rescanning the hole ,I discovered an old iron plate was 2 inches under where the coin was. The two half dimes found were faint sounding and registered 12-35 on the display. When looking thru the dirt ,I thought that they were Indian head pennies because of the reading. Very shocking and happy to find them instead of pennies. Also these were in recesses where trees once stood. As for the dimes depth ,the average dig is 5-7 inches an readings are 12-43 -12-45. Silver is getting harder to find and slowing down even more is a must when working heavy trash areas. My settings are : All metal and if necessary, kicking back to factory coin mode. LOTS of noise but well worth it. There are many more finds to post from here and will take a little time to do so including some really recent. Best of luck to all today and always.
