These are not typical but possible.....cause they have happened to me.....

1. I dug the target and grass flap popped up a little too fast......then I cant find the signal ???
answer> the smallest piece of earth flipped out of the hole....cant hold anything......wrong! target was in the small piece of earth.

2. I dug the target area....pulled out a nasty weed and some grass to see into hole to find coin ......cant find the target.....?????
answer> yup it was hiding in the weed!!!!

3. dug target area.....no target....???? searched area throughly.....searched again! absolutely no signal at all!!! youll never believe it!!!!
answer>when I dug the hole.....dime attached to digger because of sticky mud......it happened!

next I will be checking the top of my head for flying coins!

You forgot one.... it was a deep bent nail. Once you opened the hole because of your disc it disappeared. Answer... use your pinpoint to check those holes and dirt.

hahaha i've had 1 and 3 happen to me!

I once was trying to locate a nickle, dug a plug, loosened up some dirt, and was checking it with my probe.
it had just rained and the ground was sticky muddy.
The target sounded perfect for a coin, but when i was checking with the probe,it was everywhere i was looking.
i happened to notice after a min or so,there was about a half a pull tab stuck to the side of the cap on the probe.

yep...all three things happened to me before,

Just goes to show you......there was just no possible answer.....except the one we didnt think of:heh:

Ya,
Last year I had a great dime signal and pulled out a nice mud pile. for the life of me I could not find the target after the first dig. After some further digging and frustration I gave up. but soon every so often as i swept I would get a high tone then nothing...turns out the dang merc was stuck to the mud on the side of my shoe!!!
Talk about having a false every time you take a step!
good luck

Heck! ALL my coins hide from me. Some hide just a little longer than others..

The one that nails me the most is when the coin has been in mineralized soil and has totally chameleoned the color and texture of the soil. Sometimes I can't even find it when using the pinpointer unless I pick up a handful of dirt and pinpoint through it carefully a handful at a time.

I think Im gettting a new detector....its the new "KPD-band", detector....its stand for Kreskin psychic detector....you dont need to use a detector actually....you just pay him and he tells you were the coins are....wait......he missed 9/11, wait .....he missed first black president elected....wait......he missed major earthquakes.....and he cant tell me what he lottey numbers are........I think....I will guess better with my detectors.

Monday evening I was out detecting and got a real nice, deep indian head type signal. I dug down about 8 inches while my buddy looked on and I did one final scan with my x-1 probe and it sounded great. I pulled the headphones out and let my buddy listen and it sounded great. Stuck my digger in and loosened up a little dirt and pulled the handful of dirt out and put it on the towel. Scanned the hole - nothing. Scanned the handfull of dirt I just pulled out - nothing I dug down a little further in case I buried it or something - nothing. We looked around the hole and in the hole for several minutes - nothing. Never did find that coin.

Well....there must have been something there.....maybe it was really small piece? or maybe it was deep iron that broke up with the digger? Or maybe youll find it on something? Weird happens!
