Excal II 1000 coil bolts

I want to order some spares. I order the 2" long ones, right?

I do not own the Excaliber 2, But you can go to Lowes and find some Plastic Toilet Screws and Nut that will work, I also have an Excaliber

The nearest Lowes is miles away and the toiled bolts I have seen here in Canada are too thick. It seems like the ones in the coil are 1/4" bolts, just wondering if they are 2" long (I don't have my detector handy to measure).

I am not at my case right now where I have many of the nylon bolts and wing nuts and they are the same as the Sovereign ones. If you local dealer don't have any I have several of them with the tear drop washers on them too if you need some.

Interesting story about those bolts. last week me and a friend was hunting and i noticed his bolt..... I said is that a SS bolt??? He said yes..... ive never heard of being able to use a bolt that close to the coil. What we found was it worked just fine.... no loose in depth and it didnt affect PP. I asked some GURUs about it and seems they used to use them. The only issue appears they could create blank spots in the coil magnatic field. We didnt notice any..... but then there are different grades of SS im told and they arent magnetic. You learn something every day. I will say these plastic bolts arent easy to come by. Also, be careful as you keep trying to keep the coil tight the ears will tend to pull in weard. A lot of people lean on their coil in deep water when digging..... it can cause stress on the coil causing a split on the bottom of the coil or a cracked ear.

Yep, any metal in the coil's detection field might not sound off since it's not moving, but it will create dead spots in the detection field, because the eddy currents warp around and interact with any metal they touch. I wouldn't use a metal bolt for that reason. Another reason why I like the extra long White's tall man carbon fiber rod, besides it being very light, because the more distance between the coil and any metal the better IMO. I even flipped the snap adjustment pin upside down on the shaft so the "V" part is pointing away from the coil, and run my coil cable straight up the shaft and only begin coiling it once it's behind the grip. Also, secure the coil cable well. If it's moving slightly in the field it's got foil and copper in it that might cause slightly instability issues. Way I look at it every little bit can't hurt and might help.

I use nylon bolts I got from a hobby shop. They use them to attach wings to planes and often are called "wing bolts". For washers I just got a cheap pack of faucet rubber washers from a home improvement store. Much cheaper. Just had to put four in two pairs since the Whites shaft isn't as wide as the Minelab. I glued them together so they'd be easier to install, and had to drill out the hole in the washers to the right size.

PS- Often smaller mom and pop hardware stores carry the right size nylon bolts/nuts than the larger chain home improvement stores.

I PERSONALLY like ACE Hardware & MOM-POP Hardware Stores for my Plastic Bolts and ALSO Nylon Plastic WASHERS!! All you need is 1/4"
BOLTS & WASHERS, but make sure the THREADS on the Bolts MATCH the THREADS on the WASHERS, so they DON'T STRIP OUT!! They usually have the
BEST SIZE & LENGTH Variations, BETTER QUALITY than LOWES & HOME DEPOTS, and are VERY REASONABLY PRICED, not like the MINELAB Company!! I am an AVID BEACH & SALTWATER HUNTER, and have been using EXCALS' for going on 13yrs.!!

P.S.: I saw where one of the posters uses what looked like Stainless Steel BOLTS for SECURING his CONTROL POD to the shaft!! That is FINE, if you
GET & PUT Plastic Nylon WASHERS Between the HEAD of the Bolts and the CONTROL POD, and also Between the WING NUTS and the
CONTROL POD!! That was SOUND ADVICE given to me almost 12yrs. ago by one of the ORIGINAL MINELAB USA CO. Sovereign & Excal
TECHS, and his name was ROBERT!! This will PREVENT STRESS FRACTURES on you CONTROL POD & BATTERY POD, and has WORKED
FOR ME for the last 12yrs.!! BEST of LUCK, Les Robinson

Les.... lot of years on that Xcal, you must have one heck of a collection of goodies by now. Those had to be the GOOD O DAYS of water hunting. Ive hunted with some of the Fl guys that used to make their own waterproof machines..... what a collection some have to show off. Much like our relic hunting few let go of any, .... or just didnt have anywhere to sell them, now of course they dont want to. 10 gold ring days.... now wouldnt that be a day?
