Excal Phones Mod

Finally got around to completing this phones mod. They sound really good--sharp and nice tone--more contained than the stock ones with a lot more blocking of the outside noise. They also fit really well and don't need to be altered to stay on.

Like CJC said, If you hunt the Ocean, and have alot of noise pollution, ambient noise levels can cause you to miss the faint signals which could be a valuable target, But with Mr. GoldMaster's conversion from CJC's book there are step by step instructions on this mode. Just finished my Infinium Peltor convert, Got both the excals changed over, and Now the Infinium, Great Mode. Mr. GoldMaster advised getting the Gel Cells Pads also, which are much easier on the ears for those long hot summer days. Got enough Video to do a How to on this mode for both the Ls and the Excal's, looks like next winter when things are slow. Pic's of the Ls, the excal convert is much easier to do..joe

I know it's do-able but just don't have the wherewithall. First you would need a W/P switch, and a small lithium cell...

Joe,

That's not the waterproof headset for the infinium is it? It looks like the land version. I don't know because i have grey ghosts with the infinium and the land version.

Thanks,

Ken

Yes , they are the land versions. They have the volume, and balance adjustments, which I like and can still adjust with a small screw driver. I put all the electronics inside and sealed them in silicon. All of my hunting is in the high tide lane to chest high water so I should be OK, I had planned on using the Garrett Ls in the bay, but there is so much Iron and junk I'm not sure if it will do well. So I just bought a CZ20 for the task, not sure if I will do the convert to the CZ Head phone's, the bay is much quieter, a few hunts will give me a idea if I need to. I have a set of Det Pro Black Widows HP's, one of the best, they fall short of the Peltor's noise blocking ability's and combined with any detector that has a faint target response the convert is a must......joe

Awesome Mod!!! Fortunately, i bought the grey ghost for the Infinium and i like them. It made the response tone somewhat bearable in comparison to the land detector's response tone being soooooo loud. Sorry CJC for highjacking your thread. Nice peltor mod, i have the same model peltors on my Excalibur too!!! Great job!!!!!!

Those look like some Big Arse Ears !

Are the Gels worth it? do you think that the Adhesive will last?

Fanning to Wading-- to Fanning to wading... Florida Sun..etc... Very interested..

They seem to so far but Not sure about the summer heat yet..will let you know come aug....................joe

HawaiiMDer how do the Peltors on the excal , compare to the Grey Ghost on the Ls..Many still swear by the GG...........Joe

Peltor mod is better acoustically then the Grey ghost. They keep the ambient sound out much better and they fit more snugly and can't be knocked off your head when a wave hits you. It did change the tone slightly, more rich in my opinion but nice. As for the ear pads....i've had mine on for over a year now in the Hawaiian sun and the tape holding them is still going strong and they still feel as comfortable as when i first got them. But don't get me wrong the Grey Ghost are a very good set of headphones at least for the Infinium they are. On my first Excalibur the one you see pictured above i might take those headphones off and install Grey Ghost on them. Then when i get my new Excalibur in and the warranty expires on them i'll do the peltor mod again and make a head to head comparison of the two.
