excal question

pi pro

New member
i was at the beach learning the new machine, this is the question
while swinging the detector i would get a fair signal, start to dig then nothing. dig 2 more scoops and
the signal was there again, the target would be nothing special but is this normal.

if were talking about excal 2 was sand wet or dry?? i had a problem like that too, the guys here in the forum told me to set my machine to the following;wet sand sensitivity to 6 and discrimination on 3 -5 and then on dry sand 10 on sensitivity and max on discrimination its been working great for me..i hope this helps..:detecting::minelab:.

I've had this happen to me with coins. Sometimes, the coins would get sideways & I would literally lose the signal. But, I knew something was there, so I would keep digging & eventually, retreive the target. Also, as you dig in the sand & miss the target, it goes deeper & gets out-of-reach from the search coil, if it is a small target.

John, those settings are good to solve your falsing problem, but, as you progress with your detecting, you may still encounter a situation like PI has, where you have a GOOD signal, but then lose it.

Falsing, on the other hand, would be getting unrepeatable signals, even before you dig.

I got a question for ya.....How long have you been detecting?.......Don't get mad big guy....but that happens all the time.....keep digging till you get it....I had 3 targets just like that today.....and of course I imagined the worst....GOLD RING!....Sinking faster that a U-Boat in WW-1......Never got them...it can be very frustrating when the sand is deep....but when you have hard pan at 6-12" it is a piece of cake.

thanks guys, everytime it happened i just dig 2 or3 more scoops and the target was there.
i was just wondering if it happened to others that all, still working out the bugs on this excal. thanks

If I get a good repeat signal to begin with and then take a scoop of sand out and get no signal its either in my scoop or I keep digging. I've had this to happen many times. When the object your digging gets moved maybe on edge you may loose the signal.Especially smaller objects.
