Excalibur 2 WOT conversion on an 8" what are my options if any?

I love the excal, had an 800 and it is just dumb luck that I have a ecxal 2 8' again. I just would like a bigger coil if I hit the beach and get into the water.I know the 15" will be hard to swing in the water.
I also have a Infinium with a 10x14 and they are two different monsters. If I do the conversion I would like it to be water proof as well.
Is there other coils that I can use once the conversion is done?
Is the WOT my only choice with out a hack job?
Is it worth the $300 upgrade?
I love the Excal, but should I just get a SOV.?

I'd highly suggest seaching the deep dark corners of the web for comparisons of the 15x12 SEF to the WOT. Base your choice on which coil leans more to what you think is the best for your style of hunting. I'd say 75 to 90% of the people I've read of who owned both leaned toward the SEF. Either coil is getting deeper than anything else out there, though.

Yea, that's how it's done. Now, as far as color codes to match wire X to wire Y I don't know. I'd ask in the Beach forum or Sun Ray forum. Do a search there as well. What it comes down to is knowing which color wires from that SPECIFIC coil match up to which wire pin numbers from the Excalibur.

Sunray have waterproof connectors on their website, how good they are i don't know but most of their other stuff is top notch

Thankx!! I'll check into that...Would love to go S 12 if I could...
Thank you guys for all your input!!!
I any more ideas I would welcome greatly!!! Mahalo!!!!:please:

Excalibur 1000 With Sunray S-12 Coil Mod
Posted Mar 21, 2010, 03:17:48 PM

MT Pockets and I worked on my backup Excal Friday night. We spliced on my Sunray S-12 coil. I decided to do a straight splice rather then do the waterproof connector, mainly because I didn't have a connector on me, and since I have an Excal with a WOT on it already decided to just splice the S-12 on the other one.

After insulating and splicing the wires, I cover the splice first with a piece of insulation cut off a power cable, that was split down the center. we had already slid on two pieces of heat shrink, second one longer then the first one.

We slid the first heat shrink over the splice heated it up to shrink it, then covered both ends with liquid tape to make it waterproof, we then slid the second longer heat shrink over the first one and it with liquid tape. Last night covered the entire length of heat shrink with liquid tape again, and today I put a coat of Pastic-Dip over that and then put a 6 inch length of split flex tubing over it to protect it from any damage sitting in my truck....

NOTE......Splicing it is not easy since the two shield wires are not insulated, rather they are just wrapped around their primary wire, you have to be very careful during the splice or they will short out and you will get no sound.........

NOTE ANY MODS WILL VOID ANY WARRANTY YOU HAVE ON THE EXCALIBUR AND THE SUNRAY.....

Great info for others with Excals. Thanks for posting that. Now I just have to convince my friend to replace that "8" hockey puck on his Excal 800 with at least a 10". He already nails rings on a regular basis in the water and I'm sure he can do even better with something that has more coverage and depth. If I was him I'd opt for one of the SEF coils but at the very least a 10" Tornado or S-12 would probably do wonders for his totals. I would like to hear which of the larger coils people feel is just too much drag in the water?

Thankx!! that is Great!! Will this work on a Excal ll Also? Some other post in the past were confusing meon the topic...
Which one do you think would be easiest to do...The WOT w/ water proof connector or the SUN RAY water proof connector?
I am a little nerves to mess mine up. Even though I could cut, and sodder fine I just would like it to be a easy job.

Just remember that when using a coil other than the one he's using you'll still need to note the differences in wire colors for a different coil and matching pin outs to match up.
