Excalibur II 1000 is in the House

FEDEX delivered my Excalibur II 1000 today, it felt like I was 12 and it was Christmas morning. I have the battery charging and installed the machine on my 2 piece Plugger Straight Shaft. I did notice right away it is an Ireland made machine, not that it makes any difference as long as the quality and performance are what they should be. All I'm waiting on now is my Nuttall scoop from Travis and my week of beach vacation.

Also Thanks to all of you that have given be advice on your settings and style of hunting with the Excalibur.

Great now all you have to do is decide which footware to use. Listen to some gold & silver sounds and then go get em! You will not be sorry you purchased the Excall II. Good Luck and have a safe vacation. HH :minelab:

Thanks, I'll probably get out tomorrow and give it a spin and test some gold and silver targets.

Man I'm glad you got your machine, your gonna really love it. That junk 13 ring I found was about 23'' down. Excal II had no problem in all metal to find it. Go gettem' my friend, Gene

I'm looking forward to using the machine on the beach, thanks for your input on your Excalibur settings.

I have a few weeks to get familiar with this new addition to the family, and hopefully I'll have some finds to post when I get back from vacation.

Throw a few beer caps and tabs down so you'll know how your ears respond to them. Whang Whang Whang Whang! Don't dig them #$@. Your wife is going to like that Excall too my friend. My wife can't wear yellow gold but she sure likes the looks of it in her jewelry box. HH :minelab:

I have a bag of coins with some various little junk charms from bracelets along with some matchbox cars that have not been cleaned. I laid out a piece of cardboard and set out some various coins along with a gold ring a few minutes ago and gave it a test to make sure everything is working properly. In discriminate mode it picked up the Quarter, the gold ring and the dime about 12 inches off the cardboard a little less I think on the penny and nickel.

I'll gather some more rings/jewelry of various size and karat white/yellow gold and some silver and give it a swing over them. My motto has been with the E-Trac on the beach is dig everything, however it got to where (if I remember correctly) 12 -19 every time on the beach was a pull tab so there where times after I had been out there 3 or 4 hours and was ready to go sit down to something cold to drink I did pass those targets up as I was heading off the beach. I usually dig all the pull tabs, my buddies wife's' mother collects all the pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald's house, so I have no problem digging those. Plus, if you walk 10 minutes without a good signal to dig a stop and dig break is well welcomed once in awhile.

I think the straight shaft was an important thing to purchase, it is very well balance and it seems like it will be more comfortable to swing than my Garrett 2500 and my E-Trac.

Ran it a little in the neighbors yard, got a signal that sounded like a penny and it was a 1981 penny about 5 inches deep. Then got another signal high pitch and about 5 or 6 inches deep popped out a complete beaver tail tab and pull ring attached. I left the machine in Disc. mode and dug my plugs, the targets were a little off center of the plug and in the side of my hole. I don't think it will be much of a problem pinpointing on the beach with a little more targets to dig it should all come natural. I pinpoint easily with my E-Trac and GTI 2500 without using the pinpoint so this should be easily mastered.

I laid out a piece of cardboard in an area where there is no metal detectable in the ground and did some tests on several gold and silver jewelry. I switched the machine to pinpoint mode and the coil would respond to targets about 4 inches further above the target than disc. mode does. If pinpoint mode will pick up deeper in an air test then if should definitely pick up deeper on the beach.

Also, when it's in the ground it puts out a better signal dew to the halo effect, that number 13 junk ring I found was at least 19-23 inches down in the damp sand. Good luck, Gene

The "Halo Effect" on the beach is greatly enhanced by all the wet sand. I dug targets with my E-Trac on the beach consistently at 18 inches and sometimes more. I think a waterproof E-Trac would be the ultimate beach machine.

You will learn the machine quickly I am sure. I have two whites and one is 11:00 oclock and the the other is 7:00 o'clock on targets at times I know which one is which and make the dig based on the info I have and most ime if close get in one scoop. Now deeper targets they are a different bird for me. I am still learning on them. Some of you detecting in Miami area better wear floatation device as there are some large craters down there where I have been digging I do not quit until I either have time or loose signal after several scoops trying to relocate item. Heck some of them I cannot even step in afterwards have to walk around them LOL. You will enjoy and do well with the new machine I am sure.

I will be on the beach 4 weeks from Friday and I can't hardly wait, I'll take the E-Trac along too but according to how well I'm doing with the Excalibur I may not use it. I'm going to try to get over to the fresh water beach at the lake about 40 mile from my house one of these days and see what might there.

You can tell whose using Excall's on the beach they will have a scoop that looks like a small back-hoe bucket. And they need it. Excall user's don't carry slotted spoons. Should get some response on that one. HH :minelab:

Congrats BCOOP!!!! My excalibur will be in today!!!!!!

I had the E-trac and have the Excalibur II 1000. I found that the E-trac was the machine to use on land. But I found that the Excalibur is THE machine for water and sand. I also found that there were better finds in the water and on the beach as far as rings and jewelry goes. My count for money using the Excalibur went way above the E-trac in one day when I hit a ring that I got $1200 for. That was more than all my finds for 5 months on land using the E-Trac.

I also found that now because I only have the Excalibur, I am not tempted to use the E-Trac which allows me to really get used to the Excalibur. The E-Trac is such a great detector and really easy to use that it becomes a temptation to go out on land and detect. Water detecting is just that much harder with having to get into the often cold water but the rewards are so good! Plus if I really want to detect land, the Excalibur II 1000 is really a great machine in its own right.

My recommendation.......put the E-Trac in the closet and use only the Excalibur. Get to know it like the back of your hand and even use it on dry land. It is so different than the E-Trac that it requires a different mindset to really use it the best it can be used. I found using the E-trac on land really held me back on my Excalibur II 1000 and my finds on land and in the water.

Do I miss my E-Trac? Yep. It was the best strictly land machine I ever used. Loved the number system, the sounds and screen. If they made a waterproof version I would be first in line to get it. The Excalibur II 1000 is very close to it on land. But I smile when I find gold rings and jewelry in the water thinking how long it would have taken to find the equivalent value on land.

Thanks for your advice and information. I will only be able to salt water beach hunt on vacation and I am really looking forward to doing that next month. I found a lot of junk jewelry and coins and brought back 14 rings last year using my E-Trac on the beach. My gold ring finds were right at the waterline or in the edge of the water and of course I was nervous about hunting that close to the water with the E-Trac, if the E-Trac was a water proof machine, it would be one of the best if not the best machine for that purpose IMO.

I have played with the Excalibur in the yard and dug some complete beavertail pull tabs and some pennies. I don't feel it will take long to get use to the tones, my pinpointing was a little off to the side but not bad maybe 2 inches off center but I have only dug half a dozens targets with it.
