excalibur pi mode

Im using my excal. in pinpoint mode, then switching over to discrim. to see if its worth digging. In the pin point mode there is a difference in the threshold sound To me it does not sound as smooth as in discrim. Ive tried to lower the threshold to just bearly hearing it and lowering the sensitivity to 9 o'clock still runs rough. suppose to be like that? Thanks

In pinpoint the signal will be different and not drawn out like in disc as the signal is shrunk down for pinpointing the target so it will sound much different, it does for me on my Sovereign and find I get more depth in disc than pinpoint as it has a better chance you will hear a good target that is deep.

Good to see you back and I still haven't got my knees fixed yet as i had to have a triple bypass in October after my heart attack in September.

William, I have been using Older Excals' for going on 12yrs. NOW!! Running SENSITIVITY at 9 o'clock is TOO HIGH for STABILITY!! I believe most
people run SENSITIVITY around 12 o'clock to 1 o'clock!! I recommend that you pick up one of CLIVE CYNICK'S latest books on Detecting
with EXCAL'S and SOV'S, and I have read where he runs his SENSITIVITY I believe around 2-3 oclock with an EXCAL and STILL GETS VERY GOOD DEPTH!!
Also, I PERSONALLY don't detect in PINPOINT MODE, I DON'T LIKE IT!! Welcome BACK and BEST of LUCK, Les Robinson

William I like that headliner....Excal "Pi" mode..One thing I have always said, the excal has all the same Characteristic of a Minelab Pi, in the PP mode....At the beach

If your running your senstivity at 9......... it is a bit high, most of the time as hot as I can go is around 10 but if you insist on the 9, turn your volume down to stablize the threshold..when I first hit the beach I find a deep target in the PP mode, setting are ...senstivity around 12 o'clock, volume at 3/4's, then I adjust to get the best responce from that target..then I find another and do the same..just to fine tune it..most of the time these are the settings I end up with below...Just remember all beach conditions are different..what works at on maynot at the next..so you have to play with the settings to get the most out of your detector from beach to beach..day to day. 76 ..Wow..I hope I'm as blessed,.. to enjoy the time.

I run my Excal at around 4.5 - 5 most of the time although I go a bit higher in calm water--but not to 9! A/m is a tough call. I've gotten lots of signals in PP that cold not be hear in disc. but this was in calm water or up on the sidewall where interference was minimal. It takes practice, trial and error but it's possible to hear when A/M is working well.

I can only say you don't know what your missing if you can't hear it!
It only took a couple of gold rings on a morning hunt that could not be heard in Discriminate when I switch over.
This has convinced me to hunt Reverse Discriminate most of the time.
