Excelerator 10 x 14 and Explorer SE Snags Me a NICE Find!

Thanks Dan! Heck, I get skunked like everybody else...I just don't post about THOSE hunts!

You know Marc, somebody was telling me about some land they thought I should hunt...some farm land. I asked them what the history was...how far back it went. Their answer was about 4 billion years or so. :)

Yes Virginia, there IS a badass coin buried in your front yard. Or COULD be, anyway. You really do NEVER know!

The question of whether a bigger coil will help is completely Dependant on the type of hunting you're doing. If the area you're hunting is trashy or filled with iron then you would be much better off with something like the 4.5 x 7 coil or the 5" or 6" round coils...that could get around the trash and in between the iron.

But if you're doing open fields, pastures, clean areas...then a bigger coil that would give you more coverage and could be tweaked up higher on the sensitivity would be a better bet. And yes, it WOULD go deeper and maybe deliver JUST enough to get the ones you're missing. If the areas you're hunting are like the latter, I would say go for the Excelerator 12.5"...great coil. If you're a pretty fit guy that has some strong arms and shoulders, I like the 10 x 14 but the sucker IS heavy and the 12.5" probably works ABOUT as good. Both are GREAT coils. Of course, paramount to finding the larger Seated coins, like quarters and half's would be that you have to run your coil OVER one! And the problem I see here is that if you have found a couple of Seated DIMES, I seriously doubt you would have missed a Seated QUARTER. My guess is you haven't run the coil over one yet. :)

Sweet find. The detail looks excellent. Congrats!
