EXPII to E-Trac help

Hello, I just moved from an EXP II to an E-Trac. I used no discrim with Iron mask at -12, and ferrous tones. Always used manual sens. Didn't change my settings much. Does anyone have any advice for employing my EXP II settings into the E-trac. Should I try to adapt what I have been using or modify and re-learn to take advantage of E-Tracs features? Any help appreciated, as it took a while to get where I was with the EXP II. Thanx for the help. Regards,Mike

Hi Mike,
I also came from the Ex II and from that I started with the SX and X. I spent some time with the E trac emulator and reading Andy Sabish's book before I decided to buy an E and while waiting for it to get into my hands. I didn't have much difficulty but there is some things that help make it seem more Ex II like. Please get a hold of Andy's book and he describes what to do to make your tones and settings convert more similarly to the E from the Explorer line. That will help a bit.

The best advice I can give you if you are really trying to make the E more sound a like to the Ex II is to make those changes based on Andy's conversion explained in his book but as for getting used to the machines handling pinpointing sensitivity and such is to set it up in its stock coin program (ma bey adjust just the things to get the sounds the same as ex II) then set out some targets and run over them. I know I know, I went right out like everyone else and just started using it to learn but I had read Andy's book two or three times and I had played allot with the simulator and learned alto of how the controls worked so that when I went out I started to change just the things I knew were going to make it sound more like the machine I had. but as for performance I recommend you just use the Auto sens with +1 and for a while let the screen be open with little discrimination in an easy place to dig so you can get used to the area stuff comes on the graph.

I do that open disc thing almost on all new hunt areas so that I can get a feel for what kind of things are in that area then i ADD discrimination back on from there.

Its really a simple machine once you get used to it and I really don't change up to much stuff unless I am experimenting and trying different stuff.

You will love its ease and great performance just spend some time with it.

good luck

Trust the new features of the e-trac . Hardest thing for me was switching to conductive tones instead of ferrous and using discrimination instead of zero discrimination. I had been using ferrous for years and had just started playing with conductive tones on my SE. Send me an e- mail at randynorthridgeca@msn.com and I'll send you some more information. Tried to send you a pm but your not setup for them yet

Are most users operating in conductive? and if so, why? Does discrim require a very slow sweep speed to overcome the nulling, like the EXPII? Thanx for the help. I do appreciate it. Mike

i know where you are coming from but i really like digging high tones so two tone ferrous works perfectly it is split at the 17 ferrous mark leaving you digging all the high tones you can go into the relic mode on your etrac and this has two tone ferrous set up for your instant hunting turn the threshold volume down on your earphones so it doesnt frazzle your brain and read gazs posts about two tone ferrous hes the man for me he has done all the work and he works with an open screen and blanks out most of the line 1 to stop the iron falsing round this sound complicated for a newbie but works a treat so to recap hunt in relic programe and as you advance get gazs programe and give it a try i have had great results even in trashy areas good luck and happy hunting

ETrac signal processor is very fast - reset is super quick. It's great in very heavy trash with small coil, especially with FAST=ON. You can c-r-a-w-l this coil.

If you dig max depth targets and you use FAST=ON, I suggest a test with a dime and a ruler. The familiar flutey tone you get on the EX for near max depth targets is more broken and not quite as smooth on the ETrac. Takes some getting used to.

Good luck!

Are you in favor of ferrous or conductive on Etrac. Why would it be different than the EXII? Thanx for the help.

can only tell you about etrac as dont know the other detectors most good signals are around 10 11 12 13 and so to have them all sounding off on high tone is so easy and doesnt blow your mind you can hear the high tone even in the middle of a load of iron which of course gives you the low tone so cant miss the targets i have no idea how if working in conductive tones as a good target can have an id of say 40 and an iron signal could be 49 also so if they are giving off same tones i do not get how anyone can decipher good from bad
accept by looking at the screen which i dont do anymore i am still learning so maybe someone might come on forum and tell you the complete opposite but i am very happy hunting with my etrac and you have to make your own mind up it the reason the etrac is so great as each person has a choice as to how they want to hunt
