External Amp for Excalibur mod HELP PLEASE

GONGA

New member
I just did this external amp mod on my excalibur (coz I hate wearing headphones)....I have used the mini JOYO guitar amp ..nice and small runs on 9volt battery

I noticed on olbeechnuts video you use an amp aswell...I would be greatful if you help out on this one ..:surrender:

Which wires did you use on to connect up the female socket that connects on the curly earphone cord ..
I used the red and white joined together as positive and the black and bare wire as the earth and the other wires are not used ...Is this correct ....

I have fired it up and it works nice and loud however because the amp doesnt have a volume knob the volume of the amp is controlled by the volume of the detector ...

But what is happening is the volume and threshold levels both affect the outcome volume ,is this the same affect you are getting...is it the way its meant to be ...

Red & White...............Black & Yellow..should be just 4 wires coming off the headphone cord.

One.............This is the Stock just audible audio you would normal hear from any excalibur in PP mode.

Two..............Doc's Amp turned on at this point, Pulling up the threshold from the faint to a blaring threshold, all audio targets below this threshold can not be heard because it was covering them up.

Three............Threshold is now adjusted lower and the targets that were once covered

Four..............Are now heard

Gonga, from what you are telling me I think you are skipping step one, already in step two when you turn the whole setup on, then adjusting like step three. Only thing you can't test it against anything other then another excal on deep targets, sometimes the targets are there and sometimes there not...they seem to come in layers. And all this is based on how good the Amp is that you are using....I have to say also that the amp setup works Best on the beach in wet sand, dry..not sure...........And Most of the time....check out the second video....all hunting in PP mode, does not work in discriminate mode

THIS is with a 8 inch coil on the sovereign xs in PP mode, Doc's amp only works on the very faints, and the louder targets the signal gets clipped..if you listen close the target comes in louder and is getting clipped...one thing about the the clipping of the target, the silent part of the signal is the dead center of the target..........

Thanks for the help oldbeechnut ...my headphones are the blue ones and the wiring is different to the yours in the picture....on mine positive is red&white ... negative is black & bare copper wire ...tricky poeple minelab( always something up their sleaves:smoke:)

What was happening is I was using the normal male plug on the amp and as I turned the detector volume up it was overloading and clipping the amp ...
The beuty with this little amp is it has an MP3 input aswell ..So i tried the mp3 input and presto problem was solved ( I actually rewired the amp so the jack is connected to the MP3 input )....It still overloads the amp but about 2/3 of the volume up on the detector which is fantastic. So basically I will just run it at 1/2 volume or less on the detector so now it is tuneable and it is nice and loud .
Now I have the option to use the headphones or the amp.
I'm happy with the result good value for money...
