F5 with 5" DD coil

I don't recall seeing any post about the F5 detector and the 5" DD coil. I was kind of wondering if anybody could shed a little light on how well this little coil works on the F5 detector.

Also wondering if they make a adapter from the screw in connector to the push in connector?

Ron I have seen those adapters on ebay recently. I'm pretty sure NEL/Cors makes one or they used to. If I recall there is at least one metal detector dealer in the USA that sells them but I don't recall which one. There are also many posts on the internet detailing how to do an adapter if you are handy with a soldering iron.

Regarding your first question, I bought the 5" Fisher DD last year to be used with my F5 and F19 and I didn't have time to use it a lot but the few times I have used it I have found coins in places that I pounded with other coils namely the 11 DD. It separates better than anything I have used so far. I find it a little difficult to get used to the super small size. It covers so little ground that I feel I'm not moving. It's the price to pay to get the good stuff in trashy sites I suppose. I'll try it out more this year when there is no snow left on the ground.

Congrats on your F5 purchase by the way. I hope it will find you many goodies.

They are a supper hot coil, i have had one for some five years, if you have some trashy ground go slow and it picks the coins out with little ease. Worth the money spent.

Good to know we are heading to such a place tomorrow and it will be my first hunt with the F5 as well as the 5" coil.

You may have seen my air testing post with the results of my F5 and the 2 coils I have for it. One thing that I found out is that each coil has its own set of hot settings.

The 11"DD coil liked sensitivity 85 and a threshold of +3.
The 5"DD coil liked sensitivity 70 and a threshold of -1.

Without that air testing I have no idea what settings I would have used.

My brother is also running a F5 with the 11"DD coil and I took his home with me just to see if the 2 machines are close to the same. We found out they are pretty close and from the settings he has been running the sensitivity 85 and threshold +3 he will pick up a 1.5" over his old settings.

Well my first day of hunting with the F5 and the 5" coil was not as good as I hoped. I ended up with 5 pennies and none were old. I got a couple that were in the 4" range and was only getting scratchy positive signal.

My air test gave it about 7.5" and in the ground on penny/dime size targets I was getting about 4.

My brother (SL52) and his F5 with the 11"DD coil didn't have a real good either but he did get a couple of nice wheat pennies. Which sent me home with my tale between my legs. LOL

One thing we did find out, my brother called me over on several targets he had marked for me to try mine on and I wasn't getting any reading. Man that was starting to look real bad and then I remember about interference of one detector on another. So at that point he was starting to cut the plug and I stopped him and ask him to move his detector away from the target and after he moved I was able to at least get some signal that something was in the ground.

I still got some work to do, but next time out I think I will have the 11" coil on the stick, and maybe even trade detectors with my brother to see if he can see any difference in the 2 F5's.

Those Snapple ice teas hit the spot plus those egg sausage and cheese biscuits where tasty. All day hunt and we decided to approach the day with two strategy's , Ron had the small coil on his f5 and I had my 11" DD coil on my f5, we hunted three different areas where we had found silver before thinking maybe his small coil would pick up some silver between the trash and my big coil set on the hottest settings would reach down to the deep silver.
We hunted all day and no silver for either one of us. After the hunt we both concluded there must not be any silver left in WV! LOL.
