F70 Manual Ground Balance

Is there any way to manually ground balance the F70 or make it a little more positive or negative? I know that on the Vaquero by changing the freq one can make it either more positive or negative. Would changing the freq on the F70 do the same thing?

Sorry to say, no.
Out of all the extra things that the F75 can do which are neat and cool, the only feature out of all of them that I really wish the F70 possessed that it doesn't was this one.
Not having it does not seem to be a huge problem, I can still find silver and all kinds of other targets at all depth levels, but it would be nice to play around with a little more positive or negative GB along with all the other settings I can experiment with.

When you change frequencies you must always do a GB, but I don't believe that will actually change the GB settings and you still can't affect them or tweak them after in any case.

I've tried the frequency switching to gain any advantage. But no luck. My F70 seems to balance slightly positive. So it hasn't been that big a problem.

Well folks, just call me crazy but I have an inquiring mind and I did some experimenting with the auto ground grab last summer. I wanted to satisfy my curiosity as to weather I could manipulate the auto ground balance to mimic a manual ground setting. And it works. No, I am not trying to suggest there is a manual GB on the F70. BUT, while sampling your auto GB numbers a few times, you can get an over- all numerical average of what the numbers are in general in the area being hunted. In any area I have hunted the numbers change quite frequently even if only a few points, which is all you need. It is easy to find a ground grab with numbers a little higher or lower than the average you have determined for your area. You are actually tricking the detector into higher or lower numbers to get the same effect as if you did it manually. Now if I could just get my relatives to quit with the dumb Swiss jokes, all would be good:rofl:-------IB

Tricking my detector?
What if it finds out?
I have spent time building trust with my F70, I would hate for it to think ill of me! :spin:

Thanks, I will try it.

I think the F70 will forgive you for the trickery and eventually will reward you for the deception with a nice treasure of some kind.
After all there have been many quirks and moments of deceit we have had to endure while learning the spirited language of the F70
so a little turnabout I would imagine acceptable. Seriously though, there is a real advantage in regard to the manual ground balance with the F5
and it's ability to retune on the fly. I have always wanted one for that reason. ----------IB

Thats a good question Pine...I know some guys that can manually adjust the GB like to set up a little bit negative for hunting deep silver...a few years back there was a good conversation going on about how it lit up deep silver going negative a bit on the GB...so I went out and tried to "trick" my detector like IBdiggin was saying...tried GB-ing over the top of a small iron signal, like a bobby pin, and also on a very clean patch of ground, and also not GB-ing at all...I tried to pay attention to see if anything made a difference on depth or speed or anything...then I just said the heck with it and have seldom ground balanced my rig since...

So one minute I'd be hunting a woodchip totter, the next a clear sand beach, and the next a park built on iron slag foundry fill...without taking the time to GB at all in any of them...running midrange sens and digging targets in all of those locations with speed, depth, and ferocity... I dont really worry about it..and focus more on the location and targets there instead of any of the settings.
disclaimer: I'm not hunting deep old silver, just any clad, silver, or gold target of opportunity in the top 5" preferably...a guy know pretty quick when hunting a spot if a fellow needs to settle down and set up right...if its not old dirt, theres no old silver, and most all targets will be in the top 5" anyway...old field hunting would demand a better understanding and more care to this GB feature of course...but for general around town duty, a guy can just turn the thing on and swing away...

Mud

Like your attitude Mud!! Seems like most guys are out there trying to tweek this and tweek that instead of just having fun. Good luck and HH!!

All depends on you soil types. The better the soil the less fine tuning necessary. There is a whole spectrum of factory ground balanced units that count on good soil.
