F75 and cellphones

Actually this happened w/ a T2 but I figure it will probably apply to the F75 as well.

I was detecting w/ a friend who was using the T2 awhile back, and during a brief lull in detecting he complained about difficulty ground balancing his machine, and erratic operation. He said that occasionally, while detecting, his machine would suddenly go haywire, with multi-tone beeps and numbers jumping all around, regardless of sensitivity settings, disc., etc.

At first, one would suspect power line interference, but we were out in the boonies, so I asked him if he was carrying his cellphone--turned out he was.

He turned his cellphone off and his machine ran smooth the rest of the day, groundbalanced just fine, etc..

What we THINK was going on w/ the cellphone is, because of the remote area we were in, the phone would occasionally lose signal and start "searching" for a signal. This would explain why the problem was an occasional one, rather than a constant one.

Also, apparently the cellphone doesn't even need to be on your person to cause interference--if you're detecting w/ a friend and he's carrying a cellphone, it can cause interference if you're in close proximity to it.

Anyway, hope this might help with anyone who's had similar problems.

I've never carried my cellphone afield with me and just leave it in my vehicle. As I mainly coinshoot, I am neve to far away and occasionally check it. I, however, have hunted with guys that had their cells with them and on occasion have experienced what you describe. I think this happens more then a lot of us realize and we end up scratching our heads, so to speak, wondering whats going on at times with our detectors. Good reminder, Greg. HH jim tn

"A cellphone, even on standby, is a huge interference source !!!! Turn it off !!!"

I have never really noticed a big difference even with it on. Maybe it depends on the cell phone?

I noticed this one as well at the DIV hunt. I have a cell phone but have a bad habit of leaving it at the truck. At the DIV, I had no choice but to carry it with me. I too was running into the interference issue and couldn't figure out where it was coming from. Mine will go crazy just before someone calls me or sends a text message to me. My uncle called me twice in a row and when the detector went crazy both times, I figured out what it was...turned the phone off and my smooth machine was back.

Im lucky i guess.... iv'e yet to experience interference from my cell. I swing right handed so i put the cell in my left pocket. It does go crazy if i get someone calling me/
