F75 Ltd, DST on or off?

Fire Fighter 43

Active member
For all you F75 Ltd users. What are your thoughts on using DST. Does it effect performance at all. Thanks

I mostly use 9.1, DST OFF. The LTD2 is much better with interference than the original F75 was. With the original F75 I couldn't detect with a SENS above 80, just way too many false signals. With the LTD2 I can always run with SENS 99. So I haven felt the need to switch it on.

I can't tell much difference, I played with both 9.0 and 9.1 for a few days after it came back from upgrade. I happened to be on 9.0 when I was done and I just left it there.

I know the manual says that the 9.0 setting is "DST on" and 9.1 is "DST off", but on my machine 9.0 is DST and 9.1 adds even more DST (machine is a bit quiter but loses depth in air tests). It seems that different machines (or versions) are not always the same with regard to 9.0 and 9.1.

I've never owned an F75 without DST, so no idea from personal experience on how it affects performance. I've read different things by different users: All Metal mode has been weakened/the recovery time isn't as fast/Disc mode has been weakened/that it's as deep or deeper than ever. Guess it depends on the individual machine or the user's perception. I'm very happy with mine... it air tests great and is a great performer in the field.

Both my buddy and I swing DST F 75's, mine came with it new and his was sent in for the up-grade and we both feel on ours that 9.0 is DST off. Hardly ever do I run into a emi situation, but after frequency change and then go to 9.1 it seems a little bit more quiet. But regardless, I am more then pleased with the depth of 9.0, which does seem deeper then 9.1. HH jim tn

What ever you do, never give up on the F75! The beauty of it is the ability to hunt in just about any situation and ground conditions you might ever encounter. As far as settings, it is near impossible to provide you with the best settings for you, the machine and the area and ground conditions and what you are hunting for. If you are just starting and are hunting for coins, there are settings that will work well in just about any conditions. I am 67 years old and hunt in some of the trashiest parks known to man. If I can dig a bunch of clad, then anyone can! I have my reasons I hunt the way I do and that is to keep me in the field as long as I can without digging so much trash that wear myself out. I have settings that I like and I know that I might miss some gold but I accept that. I also hate zinkers and do not hunt in an area that has Indian Pennies so I disc out the zinkers. I have the F75 to get nickels, copper pennies, dimes, quarters, halves and dollar coins. I do vary my settings according to the areas I hunt but mainly keep the F75 in the following:

Set ground balance (either auto or manual but learn how to do both)
DST on (9.0)
sensitivity 50 to 60 (yes, that low)
Disc level 65 (if you want to dig zinkers then set at 55) (another way to set your disc and notch is to set Disc at '0' then notch out every segment to your liking)
Notch -set notch to accept the nickel range
Number of tones 3 (if you would like nickels to sound high set 3H)
Process FA or DE

Remember, the F75 is a super sensitive detector and cell phones can interfere so I recommend turning the cell off while detecting. Other detectors, especially other F75's close by can really cause havoc as well as power lines, either buried or aerial or radio transmitters close by, so a frequency change may be needed to quieten down the F75. Be aware that the deeper an object is the more the numbers can vary but if a target remains in the high zone, even if the numbers vary, it is worth investigating. Large pieces of junk can appear like a coin and raising the coil while swinging and still getting a clear signal with the coil several inches off the ground will help determine the object. Crown cap bottle caps sound like quarters but if you will raise the coil while swinging and the numbers fall off quickly will prove to be a bottle cap most of the time. Of course, none of this information is 100% correct so it is up to the operator to decide weather he wants to dig or not and the best way for the operator to know when to dig is practice, practice, practice! You'll get it!

Sorry jacco--according to fisher 9.1 is ON--of course this could change in the morning. Can you believe this on/off thing has been raging for years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
