F75 Ltd (with DST) to MXT Pro Switch Feedback

I am considering a switch from Fisher F75 LTD with the new DST upgrade to White's MXT Pro. I have narrowed my search to the MXT Pro based on research and familiarity with White's detectors. I am not considering any other machines at this time.

I hunt primarily for Relics, but occasionally for coins only to keep my hunting skills sharp. The ground where I hunt has low mineralization. Also, I consider myself an advanced "metal detectorist" who usually picks up on new machines quickly.

I had a first generation XLT that would keep up with experienced users of the F75. We ran an extreme All Metal program with high Pre Amp that ran the machine that was stable. The result was finding bullets down 10-12" with Frag's 18" plus. We ran primarily on sound (e.g. a low grunt with no bars typically was a DEEP relic or possible flat nail).

As the XLT is no longer made, I made the switch to the F75 based on feedback regarding depth. I don't want to make any disparaging remarks about the F75 as it is a great machine, but I just feel more comfortable with White's sound, stability, ergonomics, and VDI (shallow) capabilities.

I am looking for a comparison of how deep the MXT Pro can go compared to the F75 in ACTUAL feed trials on relics. Specifics (e.g. 1-2" or 10/20% deeper) is greatly appreciated.

Also, I would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has made the same switch from F75 to MXT Pro. What did you like, what did you miss, what did you not like?

I really appreciate your feedback and really enjoy Findmall. I always learn when I am on this site.

Sincerely,

Here is a topic on these two detectors.....

You will find sworn statements signed in blood, so to speak, of both detectors being the best and deepest. Even if you took two identical detectors with the same coils, they will differ somehow. You will have to set up two machines as close to the same as you can and do a test with no digging to see what responses you like the best. Once you dig, the ground will not give an accurate test result so make sure you hear both machines before digging. The ground condition in one area will allow one machine to be better than the other. In another area, the ground condition will dictate that the other machine is the best. You said your ground has low mineralization so that will be important when comparing capabilities of both machines. The coil used is probably a bigger factor than the detector itself when making the statement that one machine is deeper than another(one coil will be far deeper in high mineralization while another is deeper in low mineralization). Some responses will suggest one is deeper and others the opposite is deeper but the results are only valid if they are done in your soil and the coils used are your choice or very similar to each other. The same detector can easily miss a target at 3" and then be able to detect the next target at 8" of the same target size. There are too many variables to make an apples to oranges comparison without having both machines on hand, both setup with your choice of coils and settings. There would be an obvious winner when done this way if you test enough different targets to make a comparison. However, the result you end up with will not hold true in every situation and especially when different coils are used in a different test. See if you can borrow a detector or bring yours to a dealer to test out a new machine and compare yours to it, keeping an open mind about how the coils are different because each coil can drastically specialize a machine and tip the odds. The opposite result can easily be obtained by a coil switch.

I have a T2 with DST very very similar to F75 DST which I sold. I also have a MXT Pro and Racer. I would like to tell you this one is better then the other but can not really tell you that because it all depends. Here is what I can say for sure. - T2 and Racer are much lighter and easier to swing all day. I think the Racer has best Erognomics but T2 is close. For simplicity they are all pretty straight forward T2 like F75 has lots of tone options and several process to choose from. MXT has Coin/jewelry, relic, and prospect modes two different tone options in each. On MXT I can adjust the tone break in relic mode which is kind of nice. I can not do that with the other two. The racer mixes iron and good target tones better then the T2 or MXT but I also like the MXT mixed mode something the others lack (having all metal and discrimination at same time is helpful at times). Truth be said I like them all. Find your self an MXT at a good price and keep both. If over time you find one is staying home more then another then may be time to sell that one. I think that is what will do.

going to buy a f75 for wife so well try them side by side .heard they are well balanced and wife gets tired easy with the weight of mxt with 300 mm coil not so bad with 6x9 dd . well find out I love the mxt once I got to know it. I well give side by side report

First of all, I would change coils on her MXT. I wouldn't want to hunt with that big coil. JMHO.

I agree Nancy, that big 300mm or 12" coil will wear down the best of them. Before I bought a lesser machine I would put the 5.3 eclipse coil on her MXT. You will be amazed at how well it will balance out.

You're so right about that OregonGregg, The MXT is a real balanced machine with a LOT of coils. I couldn't swing that big coil long.

Like you I was fooling with the Idea of getting the F75 LTD and when I went to test it with the Guy in the shop had the F75 with A 15X12 coil on it and My MXT had the 12"/300 Coil On It and it Smoked the F75 even with it running Flat out and It was Totally Unstable and fell short by quite A few Inches,
I now have over 3000 hours In with the MXTs and no matter what they Bring out Nothing Touches it, I even Sold my Etrac to Buy A Second MXT for A Back up, In Junk filled sites the MXT Flawed the Etrac,
When ever I go detecting I always find something Good or Very Old, And These New All Pros Seem to be The Hottest Yet, I don't know what they have done (no one will say) But the A/P is a Cyborg, So much so I don't really trust my other machines Now,

In your shoe's I know which one I would go for, But you must do what is right for you. Good Luck, HH
