F75LTD Experiences

Elton...I know that there has been a lot said already and I agree it is truly an amazing detector....I've had mine about four months...Never had a fisher before .....I had a garretts ace 250 and a whites bhid so this is quite a transformation as for as detectors go...When I first got mine the noise factor took a little getting use to, lowering the sens.helps that a lot...I took it out and played around in my own yard my house was built in the 50's but the area had old activity even a civil war hospital in the near vicinity....It was just for convalescing as there were no battles near here in south Ga......I had hit the yard pretty good with the other detectors and they did good jobs at finding things and coins....I found an officers sword belt buckle shortly after getting the ltd about 6-8 inches deep I was only running.. bp..sens 40......disc.21...4htone...I was trying to get over the noise factor.......But as I said these areas had been gone over with the other detectors....My pinpointing was a little off and I broke the back loop off the belt buckle.... there is a pic on the relic and bottle forum....my heart was pounding as I brought it out of the ground it was partially covered with dirt and I was alone my wife inside..I took it in called her over to share in the discovery of what it is as I washed it and saw the Eagle. My wife was suprised but happy....She loves to look at my finds but she won' t detect for love or money I hit an old school yard sometimes and find clad and silver....it has been hit for 30-40 years but the f75ltd will find somemore goodies.
....I, like many other treasure hunters believe things are there that's why we search and find and others don't.....you gotta believe...I found coins from the 40's in my front and back yards ..silver included...4-6-8-inches..they probably were masked and tilted....it helps to walk around a good hit and go slow if it is an iffy signal with some high numbers....You just gotta have time on it....I've gotten use to the noise now if I really want to crank it up.......Sometimes I get false signals...I guess that's what it is,a good sounding target with high numbers but can't find it.....could be iron residue or something as this yard is loaded with iron...I've enjoyed the ride so far....It has got to be a major relic detector,I wish I had a good battle site or camp to hunt...I enjoy very much reading and watching the videos from all of you I would like to thank you all now for that ....HH ..God....Bless....Dan

Elton not much I can add that hasn't already been said. Surprisingly I've gone through a few more sets of batteries then Brad  BUT I think he's been much more scientific in his LTD adventures then I have, and learning more about this machine every time I use it.

I do feel the F75 LTD design was heavily designed with the relic hunter in mind vs the coinshooter, but it will definitely find coins at depth with some annoyances (such as beaver tails and some square tabs hitting the high tone). This affinity to make certain small targets sound big (I've dug a lot of tiny targets at depth) is interesting, but not always a desired feature, nor is the beaver tail/square tab high coin TID and it would be great if the user could disable these "features" when needed.

TID can be erratic/jumpy, but not always because the coin is tilted, or co-located with another target in my experience, but in my case more likely due to high ground mineralization (probably why the Explorer can get such a good TID at depth out here).

Overall I still think it's a top notch detector, with a few shortcomings, but it and my CZ70 are the best detectors I've used thus far (although to be fair, I've never tried an Explorer).

You are right on about the swing speed, marcomo, and the importance of being able to slow down while searching in the bp mode. This is one of the attributes of the LTD for searching in trash infested sites. None of us purposely go out searching for tacks, pins, and other trash items, but IMHO it is good that the LTD will in fact hit a clad or silver coin when co-located with some piece of trash. Being able to slow down does help to be able to determine that there may be something good in that spot of ground. Granted, vid will usually be bouncy, but there is still enough information being received for determination to dig. HH jim tn

How are you guys finding the battery life to be on the LTD? I have only gone through the original set that came with my detector thus far and I had 32 hours of use on the machine. The battery meter was flashing so I don't know how much longer they would have lasted but I changed them out that evening when I quit. The set that came with it were Ray O Vac alkaline and I replaced them with Kirkland brand from Costco, which I have been buying and using since I got into this addiction. I have always been impressed with the Costco brand in my DFX but I never really tracked the hours used on that machine, this year I've finally decided to track and log every hunt on a spreadsheet.
Thanks for the encouragement Brad! I was following your posts for a month or two before I finally decided to get the LTD so I hope to have already learned some from your experience! Knowing the reputation this machine had before I got mine I quickly assumed I was going to be much more analytical in it's use once I got it so that I might shorten my learning curve. The really big thing I have to do now is pick a small area and really attempt to "clean" it so I can learn as much about the trash and the "iffy" signals as I have already learned about coin signals. Of course the coin signal learning has been easy because this baby really screams over any coin in the ground, but......after read Tom D I know I have to force myself to see how the masking effect is changing both the audio and the VID as the LTD sends her signal to me.
This forum along with Tom's have been my "go to" classrooms on the LTD and I want to Thank all you guys for sharing and caring!!

Happy hunting!!

Dave

It detects all metal, including coins, you just have no idea what it is.... if it's near a tack, I mean. The TID is

Don't make me take a video of a pull tab hitting 80's with no tacks in sight. Or show you an Indian hit 7, 19, 21, 45, 32, 18, 39, 81, 88, 97, 14, 56, 45, 29 all on 15 passes

Dave I've been getting around 45 hours, and typically change them before I get to one bar...but once I did get to the last blinking bar and it still ran for several hours....can't believe how long batteries last in the LTD. I've been buying Energizer EN91's by the case, you can get 24 per case from buyDOTcom for $14 delivered. Inside the case the come prepackaged four to a box, great way to take a spare set in the field. I assume that even at one blinking bar, your still getting maximum performance from the LTD.

HH,
Brian

Thanks for the battery tip Brian, I'll let you know how well the Kirkland's do. Might save you some money if you have a Costco nearby, I get a 48 pack at Costco for like $14.99 or maybe a little less than that. I always keep spare batteries in the truck anyway so I think next time she starts blinking I'll let it run until it stops so I can better judge the hours.
Shambler are these numbers you are talking about on the Indians in air or in ground? I am not kidding when I tell you that all three of the Indians I found on Wednesday night never moved more than 55-58 and that was on multiple swings from all angles on coins 6" deep in crappy PA soil. Just wondering where your at that our results are so varied?

I recall reading that if cursor starts blinking it says change them immediately..
It also tells you which batteries to use. (Gives a list I think).Battery power seems from the print up in manual as a critical ingredient for best operation. ????

Not all Batteries are created equal !!!

Unfortunately I was out in the woods without backup batteries when the cursor started blinking, but the LTD finished the hunt with the blinking cursor and found plenty of goodies

Batteries could be an entire discussion in itself (and often has been here). I'll try a set of Energizer L91 AA Lithium batteries (same batteries the manual recommends) and see if there's any perceivable difference between them and the Energizer EN91's. I doubt they'll be a difference, aside from the drafty feeling from my wallet due to shelling out twice as much for the the L91's :poke:
