F75LTD, relic hunting/hunters could you

share with me how you like to set your machine up to hunt relics. My ground here is pretty tame. Just like you, tons of old iron underneath the ground. Just would like to know all of your settings, number of tones ,which mode and maybe when you like to switch modes/settings. Also, if EMI becomes a problem, what remedy do you use???

Lots of questions, but I'll give it a shot. I have used the F75 LTD/SE since it first came out. It replaced my original F 75 without the new Boost and Cache modes. I use two tones. If in moderate iron, I'll set discrimination at 2 with sensitivity as high as I can without it getting unstable. If EMI is a problem, reduce sensitivity first. If still a problem I increase the discrimination level. If I'm in a heavy iron situation, I set discrimination at 20 with sensitivity as high as it will go. I always use the Boost mode. Have played with the Cache mode. You have to go a little slower, but not much. In heavy iron, I'd stick with the Boost because it has a faster recovery speed than the Cache mode. I hunt a fairly lage Winter camp that has been pounded to death, so am really concentrating on deep signals. It has moderate trash/iron for the most part. I have resorted to hunting in all metal. I used a Nautilus for years with the Dual mode that is all metal and discrimination at the same time. Later I used the Whites MXT in relic mode that operated with all metal and discrimination at the same time. I learned what a good bullet/brass signal sounds like, so hunting in all metal works fine for me. That takes a lot of practice to get to that point. But it has paid dividends for me. I still am pulling good targets out of that camp that was given up for dead ten years ago. It is getting harder, but that's how I use the F 75 LTD. Hope that helps.

I also like the All Metal mode with the bp process. Manual ground balance seems to work better in my ground than fast grab. I get a more stable TID in all metal. 2T is my choice when relic hunting. With some experience you can tell what is a better target under your coil. Just get out and hunt with your machine and all the snap, crackle and pops will start to make sense. HH

Doesn't the f75se have a faster recovery in JE mode vs BP? realizing there's a possible depth advantage using BP.

JE mode is so sensitive to almost micro-objects I have found it does not work very well in my ground for relic hunting. On a clean beach is where JE does its thing. The bp process works really well on uneven ground or in taller grass where you can't always keep your coil close to the ground. Plowed fields is a good example where bp or pf works better but a good manual ground balance is a must in these areas. The light weight of the F-75SE also comes in handy. There are so many ways to set the machine up you just have to find what works for you in the environment you are hunting in. HH

If you are hunting in heavy iron, the best mode is NOT Boost, but rather the DE (Default) mode. The Boost mode has a slower retune then DE, and thats why its deeper, but when you have a lot of iron targets you want good separation and that is done with a fast retune. The Default mode has the fastest retune speed, which doesnt make it the deepest, but that will allow you to hear more targets in the iron than Boost will.

If I am in heavy iron, I hunt with the 6" elliptical, and in DE mode. If non iron site I will hunt in boost with the 11" DD. For relics, I set disc at 6, two tones and set the sensitivity as high as I can while still keeping the machine stable. For EMI, try switching the frequencies, you can usually find one that will quiet the machine down, but if not, turn down your sensitivity. People are so afraid to hunt with low sensitivity, but do yourself a favor and air test coins at different settings, and you will see, this machine is still very sensitive even with it set at only 30.

Want to thank you guys for posting, I really appreciate it.
Ok, I (with two friends) hit an antebellum site today, house is still there and modernized. I cant give the details of where.
I used the F75 all day. I stayed in DE, kept sensitivity between 50 and 60,,had to drop to 40 a couple times ( noisy spots, dunno why and as I got away from them I was able to boost it back up a tad). Used disc 1 all day with 4 tones. The reason I used 4 tones, this place was modernized, wasnt burnt or torn down and out in a soybean field, so , I opted for 4 tones because of pull tabs, small aluminum and other type of junk.
This place had old water sprinkler pipes and heads everywhere, several stretches of underground wire. Found several old sprinkler heads, but got that number down pretty fast.
Found a three ringer and 2 sharps, lots of tiny pieces of brass, I have to add at impressive depths. Also found several pieces of clad,one wheatie.
Not bad for a first time out, what do ya think???? One of my buddies found a US belt plate and two V Nicks.
Scully, why do you use a disc of 6. Also, although I did hunt all day in DE, I did go to boost process a couple time, just to test the water out. It was very very noisy, but I dont think I moved my sensitivity and I know for certain I didnt move disc level. Wasnt a bed of iron at this site, though there was some, I am sure you know what I mean. Also used the big coil.
This machines seems pretty intuitive, but I still need to dig a lot of targets. I dug several iron pieces today, when I got a high tone one way and grunt the other and most of that iron had some sort of sharp point on it.

All METAL --- There is no better mode to hunt relics and i run the sensitivity as HIGH as possible to get max depth. I used to hunt in the DE but have found a lot more relics since switching over to the ALL METAL mode. JMHO. CCH

Great setup! Run mine the same way!

Buy a 12"/15" SEF coil & go tear it up. You will dig deep relics with out loosing sensitivity to small things. I use this set up on my T2 & it's HOT.
