FA Process Made The Difference At School Site

I researched a one-room schoolhouse last year that was on the 1863 map. When I visited the site last December, it had the heavy remains of last seasons corn crop so I decided to hold off hunting it hoping the farmer would rotate his field to beans this year. After getting permission to hunt it today,I drove to the field and found it in the condition I was hoping for. The beans had been harvested two weeks ago leaving very low stubble and also the ground was moist but not muddy. Arriving at a new site one never knows what to expect as far as what type of targets are in the ground. When I hunt the school sites I always hope that the long gone building was made of brick and not one of the old wooden structures that always leave the field loaded with nails. As I began to hunt, I did not see any of the tell tale pieces of brick and right away I could hear bits of iron in the ground. I have been hunting the fields with the F75 in 2F tones with 0 Disc. DE is usually the Process I hunt with, but today with the area being completely loaded with nails and other pieces of metal I could tell that any good targets in the area were being masked out by the constant buzzing of the many nails. The nails along with pieces of glass told me I was in the right spot but finding the good targets was impossible. I felt my only choice was to change from De Process to the FA Process. I lowered the Sensitivity to 50 and also slowed down my swing speed. The FA Process made quite a difference as I concentrated on any high tone that was above 30. This method causes you to slow your pace, but I soon began finding good targets among the constant buzzing nail sounds. I spent about 5 hours picking thru the nails and found a few good coins along with several relics. The Large Cents rang up in the high 80's while the Indian Heads were only hitting in the mid 50's. The Shield Nickel was a solid 34 reading. It's worth noting that every coin had several nails in the ground with them. My pinpointer had quite a workout today......Thanks for looking

Thats one thing I’ve not tried yet is field hunting. We got permission for an older school lot but its currently a creek, creek bank, and tall grasses next to a county road. Not real sure how to attack this one.
Love those old coins and relics, good job!

Get in the creek and along the banks at least until the grass lays down.
