Familiar Story...Pounded Out Site Still Giving Up The Booty...

...thanks to the Explorer II!

The spot we call The Barber House, hunted for years, pounded by the best..."hunted out". Well, we know how THAT goes.

Took the Explorer II there today for about an hour and a half. The place is an iron pit. I had it in IM -16, Ferrous, and running sensitivity at manual 24, sometimes 22. It was an FBS symphony of sounds, but I am learning that if you want to pick the goodies out of an iron-loaded site the only way to do it is to listen to the junk too. I was swapping between Digital and Smartfind modes to compare.

I took a few pics, which may be of interest to newbies or those not familiar with the Explorer II...to see what the screen looks like in Digital and Smartfind.

This was a sweet sounding signal and the numbers don't lie...I knew it was silver as I dug it. It appears to be some sort of Canadian centennial dime...the reverse says 1867 to 1967. Definitely silver though...not sure when they stopped using it.

I dug a couple of wheaties and they were similar, though a little higher on the Ferrous end. I then got this "holy grail" of a signal and another very subtle pinpoint and I was sure it was silver.

Here's the Merc in the Smartfind mode, using the "Coins" search pattern. Little bitty box in the upper right corner = dig, baby! :)

Here's the stuff I dug that was worth looking at. The wheaties are very rough, as are all the coppers we find around here. The one is a 1921 and the other is a 1950-something .

I hope everybody else had a great day. Tomorrow I'm hitting the beach for the morning low tide.

They were all about 8-10" deep. I tried running the sens down on a few of these targets, after detecting them and before digging them. In looked like I had them all down to 16 ond lower. I'll have to try that. As for the coil, I was running the 10.5" stock. I have a 12.5 and a 5". I haven't run the 5" out there yet. I'll have to try that too.

Oh Yes you got to try the smaller coil, not sure how the 5 does as far as depth at lower sens. say 14 or so but I use the 7.5 and still dig-em at 8" or so. Experiment with this and you will find more...It's crazy how the explorer will keep finding coins even the ones it has missed it self just by changing coils and settings...I will never get bored with this machine....I would even try the bigger coil cause if you turn down sens. with it say 8 to 10 it should get good depth but not be picking up tons of targets at a time. Thats the problem with big coils...I pick up cars in the parking lots while detecting in the field!!!...LOL..Good Luck!!

Mike,

Nice finds. Sure looks like you're liking that machine... :) There's nothing that will touch the Explorer in iron that I have ever seen.

Like they say on the Mickey D's commercial..."I'm LOVIN' it!"

It's definitely a great machine so far. I have a lot of work to do, re-detecting all my best spots. There are worse fates... :)

i remember along time ago bing or whatever his name is, posted something about sensitivity and i have been trying differetn settings since then.

i am on the verge of buying a wot now ..................i may have to fool around with it some them as well................

people really do not give this machine the credit it deserves most of the time, they just want to crank it up and go digging

that is cool..............but........i better not go here
see ya
