Fast on or off

I am really torn with how I use this setting. I like how I get less false signals with it off but I hate how the screen really don't update. With it On i get more False signals but it is much easier to pick out good targets in Trash. I also worry that I miss good targets with it off.

Find some targets in the places YOU hunt and experiment before you dig.

Remember that turning Fast ON is actually turning OFF some processing so it can recover and be ready for the next target more quickly. Some accuracy may be lost on the visual side but most of us hunt initially by SOUND and then investigate further when needed. Whatever you find works for YOU,as Rich said...slowing the swing speed may take the place of having Fast ON,to a point. There is an optimum sweep speed for each individual target to get the best response based on its makeup, orientation, depth, proximity to other targets,etc....

Got a new Coiltek WOT Coil and I am finding that hunting old trashy Houses with this Coil is almost useless with Fast Off. Using Fast ON this coil seems to really shine. I hunted one small area multiple times with my Joey Coil then Stock Coil and recovered a bunch of Coins. I again hunted it with the WOT Coil yesterday with Fast Off and was very careful. I recovered no Coins. In fact I really did not even realize Fast was Off. Before I left I discovered that I had Fast Off and decided on a Whim just to try it again with Fast On. I recovered two more Coins and had more signals I needed to investigate. I too hunt by sound more than ID. If I get a slight repeatable sound, I will then investigate further. Usually using the ID and the sound I can tell what it is before I dig. I have found this will not work using Fast Off because I do not get this initial Squeak and if I do it is not repeatable.

DF-Good observations, without the initial chirp nobody knows it's even there, scanning with multiple coils is something I need to do much more....Tony,I've found the same,I love my EX2 to death because it's taught me ALOT in general. I can't remember whose setup it is but it's a popular one and they use Fast On. If there was a really clean area with virtually nothing but deep coins,it might be beneficial to run only Deep On but I haven't really found one of those places,at least lately! I have started using Fast On with the CTX and it just moves from one target to the next quite well, this is VERY noticeable with no disc. I'd like to borrow a Coiltek just to see how it performs, you never know till you've tried it!

I have to admit I cheat a little. I have two identical Etracs that I have different coils on. Makes it easy to switch coils. I am not rich but after using the Etrac, I had no use for my other Detectors, so I traded them for a second Etrac. I am no test person and do not get my Coils at a discount so I am not biased at all. Tried most of them NEL, SEF, Stock, and Coiltek. Coiltek by far is my favorite and the Joey is my favorite Coil. At present I can not tell that the WOT is any deeper than the Joey. The WOT does cover a lot of ground and if you are careful you can hunt some mighty trashy areas and not miss coins. In a way the WOT is no harder to Pinpoint with than the Joey, you just have to leave Fast ON. It is exceptionally dry here right now. After a Rain everything may change.
