Favorite SE settings you hunt with?

I haven't seen a thread about peoples favorite hunt settings in a while and I thought I'd get one going. I'm still relatively new with my SE so I'm still climbing that learning curve. Now that I'm just about over a nasty case of poison ivy, I'm ready to get back out there. So, what's is everyone using to hunt in high trash areas? Beaches? Woods? Any favorite programs been lucky for you? Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Jai

On my SE I like to have just a little black on the left side showing. This alows a much quicker response to targets around iron objects. Sometimes I have zero iron mask so the whole screen is white.

Sometimes, if I know the coins are only about 6 or 7 inched deep for oldies I will run semi-auto (that is where the line goes round and round the sens number).

If coins are really deep I will run sens in Auto up till the detector is just at the point of being unstable with gain maxed.

It is that simple.

If looking for gold chains make sure 1/2 of the far left screen is not darkened. I have a special saved screen for that type of hunting in which I darken using the curson, just a quarter inch wide far left and just half way down the screen. The rest is wide open.

far lower left being open? Do they actually show far left but lower than mid way vertically? I know bobby pins do and nickels if they are deep at the beach I go to.

Yes, very light, tiny gold chains on my XS hit far on the left hand screen half way down all the way to the far left bottom. I have not tested this on my SE yet.

For the type of hunting I do. Old Sites for Old coins and relics.
All Metal
Ferrous sounds
Variability @ 10
Gain @ 7
Sens. Manual and just below unstable.
Fast & Deep Off
Big screen w/cross-hair
Keep the coil to the Soil & check those odd Blips
The Minelab wiggle ain't no Giggle.

I used Deep all the time on my XS and EXII and when I first started using the SE till there was a discussion about it on this forum some time back. I checked it out on a faint signal one day and it didn't seem to make any difference. I don't know if it's me or just my imagination, but the sweet sound of a deep coin sounds a little better. (I was running 5 & 6 gain on the first 2 machines)
Just never really thought much about it till this post when asked for settings. I do know that I don't like the sound of Fast on deep coins. Too choppy for lack of a better description.

Some food for thought here, thanks! I can't wait to try some of the settings out. My house dates back to 1850, and the ground is full of heavy iron trash. I can literally put my detector over 80% of my yard in pin point mode and find metal. The worst is the falsing I get in-between nails. I still can't get myself to stop digging a good sound even though when I pinpoint, I hit targets on either side. Hopefully this will help.

It seems a lot of the settings mentioned might be geared toward older relic hunting/ or avoid modern clad. Is there a slightly different setting one might use for a kiddie park? Sometimes I just like/need the mini-successes. While it would be nice to find the older coins, I'm not bothered by finding some newer stuff. Also, how do these settings treat jewelry?

Lastly, does anyone have some recommended beach settings?

Thanks again,

Jai

In iron mask, close it up to 30 or 29 try 30 first.
Lower your sens. to 20 for starters.
Noise cancel in the air per Manual and not on the ground. (Exception here)
You have to move slow and do a tight wiggle over your target. Pinpointing is out so do the best you can to find center by checking the target at 90*
Hope this helps a bite. From here,it's experiment.
