Fellows: What's the most dependable pinpointer?

bulletman

Well-known member
Drove 50 miles one way today to detect at a good location. Got there and dug a few targets and my white's pinpointer went on the fritz. I have been thinking about the Garrett and the Detector pro model. What do you think?

Garrett Pro Pointer

Garrett Pro pointer.
I covered the speaker with black electrical tape and have used it in muck, muddy swamp water ,wet grass, and even in water momentarily,
never even had any problem with it.
In fact all the yellow lettering has been rubbed off ,and its going on two years of use.
When the batteries are worn out it'll sound like a ambulance siren time to change the battery

Well I have a Garrett and it is one of the best on land, but if you can only afford one pointer and you do water searches too, the vibra probe is a great pin pointer. I use a floating sifter and my trusty vibra probe hangs on the side of it. It make for quick retrieval in lake and river detecting and also works great in the salt. You can dive with it too. And it works excellent on land. I also have the Sunray probe on my Sovereign which works right through the same head phones as the detector. There are many choices but again the Garrett is a great choice for on land.

Best regards,
Steve

I like the Vibraprobe. It detects only off the tip which makes a lot of sense. I see the Garrett has a built in LED flashlight which is pretty clever.

Uniprobe. You never forget it cause it is attached to your headphones

Garrett ProPointer.

What's the most dependable pinpointer?

I've used my forefinger to point with for 64 years now and it works rather well for me.
I urge you to try it too.
It's not too hard.

Not water proof but the best water proof one is the vibra probe. It is great and good to 200 feet. For detecting in Northwest wet conditions it is perfect. I only use my Garrett when it is nice out. The vibra probe is built like a tank. The simplicity of it is great.

Best Regards,
Steve

Didn't work so well for me............. oh wait a minute you said forefinger, I was pointing with the wrong finger .

I have taken my ProPointer & filled the audio opening with black RTV. It was to loud anyway. I have dropped it in a creek twice and it's still ticking errrr buzzing.
My second most used is the Uni-Probe pocket probe. I had to replace the BNC connector a couple times.
My VibraProbe I believe is waterproof - just doesn't get the depth of the Uni-Probe & ProPointer.
Since I got the ProPointer, I use it almost exclusively. I like the size & convenience. Although I also like the Uni-Probe, it's the cord & connector that gets to me at times, and I wish it was vibrate only - but I'll keep it around.
The ProPointer will get extra depth/sensitivity with the sliding coin trick - it's been discussed on Findmall. The extra can come in handy at times. I usually use a penny to get the extra out of it.
If there was a poll - it's looking like the ProPointer is up there.

I'm not sure why great depth is required with a pinpointer. I want to know when I'm close to the object. If it doesn't buzz, I still need to dig. If it buzzes, then I'm close.
