I think this article makes sense and I am going to try it later on today after I work out. You hear that Bruce! I don't blow my appointments off for the Holy Swing. You should grasp those calloused weight-lifting hands and grab that lat bar and kneel in forgiveness to the gym gods.

I am going to workout really quick though. 10 sec rest between sets, 16 sets for shoulders & 10 sets for calves with 16 sets for abs thrown in for the beginning.

I think this approach with your brain being the discriminator is a good concept. I am going to try it today after the gym on an old park area with trash. I'll post in this thread how it went. Aarrggh, I just looked at the weather and it said possible rain later but it looks to be from the sky like it will take a while to get around to it.

Funny, I just remembered that I had a dream last night with an old friend of mine and we were searching his relatives place and we found a bunch of caches. It must really be getting in my blood. it's like when you start to walk you automatically start to think, swing your arm back & forth, get a good sweep, heehee.

Or anytime I see something with an LCD interface I start thinking about touching it and making adjustments, heehee.

The person is right in my eyes but he made a type-O I think.

He said ferrous sounds can give false's also, but also said that they show up in extreem bottom right and said was from screw caps....those are not screw caps, but called crown caps, and they are not falses. I knew what he meant but newbies would get confused. Just an observation which I felt it needed to be corrected......

I've been hunting this way from the start, ever since I got the machine. Took a couple days to get used to all the noise from the iron, but no big deal really.

It's true that the crown caps and small junk also give a signal low on the ferrous scale and a correspondingly high tone similar to a coin.
However, in smartfind it's easy to just look and see if it's in the bottom right corner. If so, think twice about digging it. I'll usually only pass up ones that are WAY in the lower corner. Anything higher I dig.

The bit about iron falses having a low tone (thud, as he puts it) and then a high tone indicating possible iron is true, but it's a bit more complicated than that. While it's true that a mixed signal like that often indicates iron, it's also true that it sometimes (I would say often, but it doesn't happen nearly as often as I'd like, unfortunately :detecting:) indicates a nice deep coin buried with a nail or two.
On some level, the quality of a high tone is somewhat irrelevant. You definitely want to dig the better quality high tones of course, but the mixed ones should be dug too. Good things result from doing this.

At first when you asked me what my settings were I started thinking to myself,"What does he want to know that for?" I will try these settings this coming Monday & Tuesday when I can get out for a while. 90%, that's a pretty healthy and significant increase. If someone says that then that is worthy of my attention. I am always game for more tips & knowledge and putting it into practical use for the hunt. Thanks for the tip and this discussion.

I noticed that I was getting a lot more "good hits" than before BUT trying to utilize pinpoint mode is an exercise in futility when the finds are amidst junk. I guess I am going to have pinpoint the ole' fashion way. I might as well get used to it because when I get the Excal I'll be doing the same thing.

I had it at semi-auto 24. I tried 24 manual and it was too erratic, false signals or were they? They were repeatable in the same general area. I only had an hour or so to swing. Got to go to work now. cya later on tonight.

It takes time to let your mind adjust.Lower your sens. in heavy trash to maybe 14 or lower. Listen. There will be tons of info going into your ears. Your brain is the tool that you want to use for sorting it out.
