Finally found a town site that was burned during the CW after over 2 years searching

And after a nerve racking conversation with the land owner in which he said he only lets one guy hunt he decided to make it two guys :hot: This site was a small town with 50 houses, post office,2 stores,2 hotels and a blacksmith shop when it was burned to the ground in 1863 because the Jay-hawkers used it as a recruiting site and hangout. Was able to get over there for almost an hour tonight before dark and found several relics that give me high hopes for a longer hunt tomorrow.
A lot of it is waist high prairie grass and can not be hunted very well but quite a bit of brush timber that I can poke around in for a good long while as I got permission to hunt over 150 acres surrounding the site.
Also was a mill on the creek from 1840s to 1863.
I am new to relic hunting but just put the E-Trac in all metal Ferrous 2 tones man. sens. at 28 and dug every high tone and it works like a charm as I found the 2 bullets and the buttons in a solid carpet of cut nails.I will be there for several hours tomorrow if all goes well and see what I can dig,Ray.

Nice digs Ray. I'm glad to see someone uprooting some relics with a Minelab! Keep us posted!

Looks like you got a good spot! Can't wait to see what you get tomorrow! BTW, do you have any idea what that 2nd item from the left on top in the 2nd photo is? Slag? It looks familiar? Good luck tomorrow man!

It looks like rusty cast iron but sounded different than most iron so I dug it to see and it sticks to a magnet so iron it is,Ray.

Cool finds, Ray. Best of luck on your hunt tomorrow.
