I went back to an old abandoned house this afternoon that I hunted late last Fall. The first time I hunted this late 1800's early 1900's house I was using a 10 X 12 SEF coil and found two Mercury Dimes and a Bufallo Nickel.
Theres a lot of junk metal around the house and I wanted to see if I could find any old coins that I missed last Fall - this time using the 6" Excellerator coil that I just got two weeks ago.
I was only swinging for 15 miniutes and a got a bouncing FE 12 - CO 47 signal - the signal was jumping around but kept coming back in the silver range. Dug down 5" before my Pro Pointer would pick it up - the signal was coming directly from under a 2 1/2" in diameter pine tree root ! I pulled the loose dirt away with my hand and I could see the big reeded edge of the coin - just shinning away. I kid you not - this half dollar was laying on it's side right under a tree root that was covering 95% of the coin - and the E-Trac still gave me good target ID numbers - unreal - I'm sure thats why the numbers were bouncing around.
After only being able to find Kennedy Half Dollars since I got into this hobby a year and a half ago - (found ( 5 ) last year) - a 1942 Walking Liberty Half Dollar - this was a good day !
I sure would be nice to find a Barber Half this season to keep it company
