Finds from another worked out park!

James N.D.

New member
I got out for a few hours and decided to hit another worked out park. I wasn't there very long and I dug my first Merc at about 8"-9". This is what I got this Sunday. I dug a total of 5 more Silver. They were 4 Merc's dated 1917-d ( High Grade with full bands on back),1919-d,1925, and 1939-d. I also dug 1 Roosevelt Dime dated 1954-d. The 1919-d Merc was a suprise coin with a 1919 Buffalo Nickel in the same hole. I got a reading of 26 on digital and thought it was going to be an older Wheatie. I dug and out pops a Buffalo Nickel and then I knew there was another coin in the hole and it was a Merc. Got to Love finding more than one coin in a hole!!! I also Dug 3 more Nickels today and they are 1 V-Nickel dated 1904 and 2 Buffalo Nickels dated 1919 and 1934-d. Had to use the acid on the '19 to bring back the date. I also found 4 more Wheats dated 1916-d,1919,1920, and 1934-d. And the last find of the day was an old pin that was close to 10" in the ground. Pics are below.[attachment 30209 Silver.jpg][attachment 30206 NickelsBefore.jpg][attachment 30207 NickelsAfter.jpg][attachment 30205 Wheats.jpg][attachment 30208 Pin.jpg]

Nice finds again, those worked out parks haven't been hit by a Minelab I'll bet. Every time I see your name with a photo attached I know it's good. WTG

Depths coins go down to is amazing with some coins been down to depths of 18 inches! I have proved this by checking the trenches dug by workmen on parkland sites, some of the coins were sticking out of the edges inside the walls of the trench at measured depths of 18 inches.

That is a lot of stuff from a worked out park! Very nice assortment of nickels with some very good looking ones too. I'm looking for my first V nickel. Have found lots of Buffalos but no V nickel yet.

Thanks Eddie! Rick (ND) couldn't believe the coins I got from the park I went to on Sunday. Even his wife come in and seen my coins and Rick told her where I got them and she replied "You are Lucky, that is for sure". Gave him another place to check since I didn't really cover it using a Pattern. Just mainly was wondering around and found all the items. There were 3 other spots I wanted to hunt and I didn't even get a chance for them. Next time! Thanks for the PM Eddie and for the response on my finds. Good Luck and HH with the info I gave you and hopefully you will be posting a Seated real soon.

Have you been digging the Deeper signals that are close to a Nickel reading because if you haven't you are missing the V's. Good Luck and HH.

You sure the park wasn't filled at one time ot dug up before. The only way coins could get that deep is if the park was filled, dug up at some point, or is next to a River and each spring when it floods the River brings in sediment and deposits it over the grass. But you just never know I guess. Thanks for the response and Good Luck and HH.

There is plenty of Minelabs in the area and I think that the others are either going too fast or don't recognize a deep signal from inexperience. This park has been pounded by a lot of Minelabs since I have been with on a couple occasions. Just takes a person to really understand what these Fantastic Detectors are telling you that is all. Thanks for the response and the kind words about my finds bieng good and hope you get out and find a spot like this yourself. Good Luck and HH.

I am not sure just how the coins came to be so deep , i think their are lots of reasons why coins on ANY TYPE OF SITE can be down a foot and a half , the fact is their are lots and lots of 18 inch deep coins that will never ever be found by a metaldetector.

Great Finds James. It is amazing really how many coins are still out there. I never got a chance to get out this weekend, Had a Large family get together, But that was alot of fun to. Yes, It is nice to find more then one coin in the hole at a time, Last week when I was out for an hour, I found a 1952-D Rosie and hit the hole again and heard there was another coin and dug it out and it was a 1934 Wheatie. Then I went over the dirt pile before I filled the hole and another 1946 Rosie was in the dirt pile I never even seen. Keep up the great job and HH.

You are going to have to be more specific Mr.Chile! Are you talking about the Nickels or the Pennies? If it is the Nickels, I use an acid called Nic-A-Date Date Restorer for Nickels. It is made by the Nic-A-Lene Company and you should be able to pick some up at your local coin dealer. I only use this when the date is not visible and when you apply this acid it eats away at the softer metal enough to bring the date back out of the coin. Now for Pennies I use Peroxide and a really fine brissle brass brush if needed for the more corroded coins. The Peroxide usually will do a great job if you take and heat some up in a Microwave or put some in a small glass container and have a small candle underneath so it heats up the Peroxide and makes it start to boil a bit. Whatever you do, don't put silver in Peroxide because it will turn the coin into a dull grey and I am not sure if you can undo it after this is done. Hope this answered you question but if not please be more descriptive about what you are wanting to know. Thanks for the posting and question and glad I could be of any help.

I know there has to be more where that came from so I might have to try it out again sometime.

I find it fun to go and still pop out old coins in worked out areas that I myself and others have pounded the last few years. I must be learning a few new things for me to be able to do this since Me and the other guys detected these areas long and hard. Maybe I am really tuned in on the Explorer now.
