finds from last weekend

Sat I went to a place that I was at last year and I had some good luck at that time but with the dry summer we had last year the ground was rock hard so I didn't MD much of this place. I figured I would wait until we got some good rains before I went back. Well we have been getting some nice rains this year so I went back to see what I can find.

The second thing I dug was a locking #12, about 2" deep and it turned out to be a ring. Now here is the interesting part. It looks like it could be white gold, but it has 925 stamped inside the band and that number is for silver. I air tested it and it still shows #12. I have found several silver rings that are smaller then this one with a lot less metal and I have never found a silver ring that has come in less then #30. I was talking to a friend about it and he said that it might be white gold but was marked wrong. I guess I need to go and have it tested to see just what it really is.

While I was at this place I also found 3 Merc's and 5 wheat's

Sunday I was driving a round and come across a house that had most of it's yard all tore up so I stopped and asked for permission. The guy told me that I could MD it but some other guy MDed it a week ago. Will the other guy missed a few coins. I found a 1929s Buff and 3 wheat's and it only took me a lil over a hour to MD it.

so those are my finds from this past weekend

Nice finds Mark! I've found a few Buffolas this summer but never any dates on mine! Nice lookin ring too! Kinda glad these rains have kept comin periodically. Keeps the ground moist. I haven't seen the grass this green this late in the year in a few years! Keep up the good work!

Nice finds Mark!
Definitely have that ring checked. And send some of that rain this way...we need it.

That is an odd # for a silver ring...,looks silver with the dimes.Try this, saw it on line...spit on it and wrap it up in aluminum foil,in an hour or more open it up and if it has the smell of rotten eggs, its silver.....so they say......GL

Nice results there Mark.
That ring looks quite old.. silver or gold, it still is nice.
Those Mercs. are nice to find.. I never get tired of finding those.. they look so small when you first uncover them.
Felix

Bob, I'll try that tomorrow night after work. I'll try it with that ring and another ring that I know that is silver and smell what happens, lol

Will I tried it on the ring from last weekend and another silver ring and neither one smelled like rotten eggs. I guess I'll just have to get it tested..

If the ring has a slit in it, it will read lower than normal number. If it does have a split, squeeze the ring so it touches and test again while holding it closed. Gold rings will also read lower if the solder joint is open from being sized. Mark

What!!!.....I didn't think they could put anything on the Internet that wasn't true! LOL

Amazing how the ground can "change" by getting some moisture. Definitely one of the unique fun things about this hobby!

No,,, the ring is not split.

I have run in to that before where the band is broke and you will get different numbers and most times they are lower.

Bob, yeah that is hard to believe, lol

Good stuff Mark, Always nice to see you digging silver. Those darned rains you mentioned have all avoided us down in this corner of the State. The ground is so dry I'd be afraid to dig in the park, let alone someone's yard. The only good news is that I've not had to mow for nearly a month! Looks like I need to take a trip up to visit the grandkids! HH Randy
