Finds from Sundays hunt 3 hours

Another great day hunting and a first for me The barber quarter is the first I have ever found. I have barber halves and barber dimes but barber quarters have eluded me till now.
My XS was on fire I don't know why because I have hit this same spot several times in the past. My buddy hunting with me called me over on one of the mercs his XS with a 8" coil was registering a visual signal but no sound produced on it. I swung it with my 10" coil and there was a perfect silver signal. It was 8" deep dry ground
He is new to his explorer this year and runs with a Little discrimination and I run mine wide open with ferrous

the Barber quarter. It's strange how some coins elude us. Last year I found 2 halfdimes...my first capped bust dime...and my first large cent. This year I've found a silver dollar...2 Barber halves...a second bust dime...BUT until about 3 weeks ago I STILL had NO SLQ with a date after more than 30 years of huntin':bouncy:
Well I finally got one a few weeks ago. Congratulations finally getting the Barber quarter that has eluded you. Nice finds buddy.

Clark, those are some great finds!!
I've been to pounded areas so many times, and have made some great finds weeks later. It's amazing how swinging over the ground at just the right angle will give you a nice signal.\

You said your friend was using little discrimination with his machine. How much is "little"? Was he using the default coin program? Or an Iron Mask setting? If your friend is hunting in Ferrous as you, then he should be wide open (AM).

Congrats,

Thanks CAPTN_SE
My buddy runs his Ferrous tones IM-10 I believe This is his first year with the explorer and all the noise it makes opened up drives him crazy
But another friend and Neighbor is on his second year with his and I started him out opened wide open and He is doing great. I give him another year and he will be cleaning up. Right now he can pull silver out with iron stains on them.

I have yet to find any bust coins thats another goal !!! I do have large cents Though. I have seen your dollar and halves when you posted them Great finds there. I would love to find a silver dollar Its got to be the ultimate seeing that in a hole and knowing its going home with you.

I am sure there is one out there for you some place maybe on your next hunt

Hi Clark! Great job - I just got my first Barber quarter a week or so ago - had been eluding me for 8 years! Have found lots of Barber dimes and a Seated quarter, but for some odd reason that Barber was tough. BTW, where in NY r u located....I'm in northern NJ. Regards, Erik

hi i am his buddy trying to use my XS will get better.that day i found a barber dollar,wl half,2indains,2 wheat.its allways fun learning.he is a good teacher.

Very nice finds Clark and my hat goes off to you.............:clapping: We all now that the E-Trac seems to be the up and coming replacement for all the older Explorers, but it does my heart good to see posts like yours who are still only using the Explorer XS and still being able to come up with some very nice old coins. Great job and long live the XS!! I can't wait to see some of the great finds like yours the E-Trac may produce to really put the Explorer users to rest, but I for one will never put my XS in the retirement home............... HH and continued sucess with that outdated XS...............
