Hit an old beach Tuesday afternoon with a buddy. Finds were few but this Shield nickel popped out of the sand and it made my day! Lots of detail on it. -Kieth

Very nice find still hunting for a shield nickel most of my nickels are toast from the beach.
Was it a saltwater beach?

That Shield would make my day too. I've been told that Shields are difficult to find on the West Coast....we'll see about that.

Congrats !!!!!!!!

Congrat's to you on the find and Save of the Shield Nickel. That is indeed a nice one with lots of detail.

Thank you for the responses.
Mark...Yes...I dug this at a salt water beach. Here are my finds from the previous Saturday there. If you look below the three ringers is a bent coin. That is the 1859 half dime that is all cleaned up in the next pic. Copper typically gets a heavy patina in salt environment here, lead turns dark dark gray to black and silver turns almost black as well. -K
