It was a quick one after work. I will be going back soon to grid the area around where this Barber was found. I made a quick pass over a large area before finding it. Now it's time to concentrate on that spot.

It felt great! This was my first Barber. I wanted to go back to the spot after work today but it was cold and drizzling. I want to grid the area where the dime was found and hope there are more. This was my first hunt in that place and I covered a large area very quickly due to lack of time.

GREAT FIND, DUKE! Hope you find more! But, you're making me wish it wasn't so cold outside right now. If it was warmer, you know where I would be - outside! The first Barber dime I found was at the home of a friend whose grandfather used to shoot dimes off the fenceposts in the front yard, back in the 1890s and early 1900s. It was in excellent condition, when I found it, which means he might have hit the fencepost instead, to my advantage! HA! It was dated 1915, which was a neat coincidence because, my father, who had been born in 1911, had been run over by a team of horses, or mules, pulling a cane-cutting machine, in 1915, and it had almost cut both legs off. However, the old country doctor, who came to the home in a horse-drawn buggy, sewed-up the four-year-old boy's injuries and my father was saved from losing his legs. To the old doctor's credit, my father ran a State race, while in high school, and there was only one boy who out-ran him. But, to the day he died, November 24, 1993, you could still see the scars on his lower legs. My second Barber dime was found next to a brand-new concrete sidewalk that had just been poured in front of a library. One of my friends, who owned a local hardware store, had found several old coins there, after the old sidewalk had been torn up and had suggested that I also search that area. I went there one night, about 9:30 p.m. and, imagine my surprise when the only coin I found was a 1911 Barber dime, minted the same year my father was born, and also in excellent condition. To this date, these are the only two Barber dimes I have found. But, I'm sure hoping to find many more in the near future!

That is a Nice Barber Dime DukeOBass! And your First also which makes it Extra Special. What are the odds of finding a Barber Dime in that shape for your first Barber? I hope the Barber's start popping out of the ground more often for you, they usually do after that first is reached. Good Luck and HH on your next outing DukeOBass!
