First Hunt with EX II

Member
HI All , I just recieved my"New" to me , but well used Ex II yesterday ,that I bought from another forum member . Its the first time I laid hands on a minelab, but like everyone else , I was always curious about them. Well I took it on its ,and my first run at a little park thats been hit pretty hard by me in the past , and after about an hour or so I was getting the hang of it pretty good. There was one spot that had given up a few silvers and wheats in the past, but had pretty much dried up, at least until now. I managed to pull seven more wheats and a '41 jeff, and a '43 washington and a religious medal, all from 8-10 " deep. These were all out of reach are being masked from my other machines. Yes , I am a BELIEVER in the ability of the Explorer Now...Also got my oldest and deepest Tootsie car yet,..HH.. Rich

To the Explorer, I know I have a lot to learn about the Ex II, but after only a 2.5 hour hunt , it seems to be coming together pretty quick. No complaints , :)..Thanks Again... Rich..

Great digs..

Now "git yer self" some Excelerator coils...4.5 x 7" For the trash areas, great depth and can run sens high!

All it takes is a little use with an Explorer from a New Comer that was using a different brand of machine to realize just how much one has walked over in the past. Even though at first the Sounds may not make much sense and the Cross Hairs or Digital Numbers may tell the New User very little, it gets easier with more use and also testing certain Coins and other items of interest you are looking for. After one starts finding Coins and other items in Heavily Hunted Area's that have been hunted by other brand detectors, then the Newbie sees why the Minelab Explorer's is one of the Best Detectors for Coins and Relic Hunting. They go Super Deep and find the stuff everyone else is leaving behind. Glad to hear your having Success already and there will be LOTS MORE GREAT FINDS when you get more time logged onto that Explorer 2 you bought. All your old sites will become your New Hot Spots again. And that's a Fact! Congrats on those great finds already and Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you. Welcome to the Explorer Forum as well!

I took the EX II to another park today that has been pretty lean on the finds the last few times I hunted there. When I finished the first hunt I was up to -10 IM and 28 - 32 sens, smartfind and 10" coil, conductive sounds. I started off my second hunt trying these settings , but was digging alot of big deep holes trying to figure out what this thing was telling me. I deliberately dug a lot of can slaw and other trash to try to get a handle on this thing. I did get 7 nickels, a JFK clad half, a couple of quarters and a few pennies and dimes ,all clad, and an old digital watch with broken band. I also tried the preset pattern with + jewelry ,but that didn't make much difference. I dig alot of iffy signals with my whites machines , so I dug what sounded like iffies to me , and all were trash. All the coins gave good repeatable hits .Im used to running O disc with tones on , on my M6, so just before I left today, I switched to IM -16 , Var. 9, ferrous tones, and then everything started to sound a bit more sensible, which i contribute to the faster recovery of the open IM, I just didn't care for that nulling in the pattern settings, which really was a chore to get use to.All metal with the tones seems to be more to my liking , and I can see it pick out the coins in the trash better, and the ID box locks on faster. Its going to take some trial and error to master this thing ,but I will get it .I bought the EX II to get some deep silver and it got me some deep coins on my first hunt, and I'm really pleased about that.I'm looking forward to making some great finds with the Explorer, Just gotta figure out whats the best way to run it for my liking, then the finds will come, no doubt, HH....Rich
