Well.I didn't do to well.I went to my favorite spot.Lots of iron and deep in the bushes. This place has been hunted hard for many years.I found one penny from 1944.The signal was 12-44 and the only good sound i got.I'm in this for the long run so it doesn't bother me but i thought maybe i would find a little more. This machine is completely different from my at pro.I just can't wait til i unlock it's secrets. How often do you get a coin from signals like 23-44,27-42 or something like that?I got lots of signals like that but i thought they were iron.Should have dug more but didn't have much time.Anyway as soon as it's nice i'm going out again and i will dig more of theses signal if you think i should.
Thanks
Scott

Those 20 something ferrous numbers with 44 or 42 after them could be silver. Best thing to do is hit ironmask and go over the signal and see if it jumps to the mid 30's...if it does then it is junk. if it doesn't...you might want to dig them. I'm a total novice, only had my E-Trac out 3 times, but I've been reading and watching everything I can. the machine can really pick up on nickels well too. The 3 wheats that I've dug came in at 12-42 as well.

I'm with BarberDan. If you found a wheat penny then the odds are good that there are silver coins in the area. I've been using the E-Trac for a couple of months now and my suggestion would be to keep it simple at first. I use the Minelab coin program with a couple of modifications: sensitivity at +2 or +3 and trash density on high. Good luck and stick with it.

If you're in a discrimination pattern that is open to that 27 line, you'll need to judge whether a signal is good or falsing. Really the only way to do that is to actually chase a few of those and see what's down there, (These are one way hits). On two way hits I generally dig all, unless I'm getting a lot of falsing, the ground digging conditions are hard, or I don't have a lot of time. Then I start searching for the better sounding targets.

Very few one way hits with with Fe's in the 20's produce a good find for me, but there are places I've learned to dig everyone of those also. Just depends on the site and time constraints. Good luck Scott.

Often you will find if its iron it will seem to "move" around.
You can never get a good location of it. Good targets seem to stay in one place better.

Bart's definitely right. Consistancy of signal is NUMBER ONE with the E-Trac.

Stock coin program to start. I had a tendency to go fast, I found the slower I go, about 4 or 5 seconds per sweep the more deep targets would pop up so prepare to slow it down. When I mastered this I opened up my screen more, got more signals, figured out when to to use iron mask and it falls together after that. I tried a open pattern once before I understood it and its just too much to process. Good luck buddy!

Start with the coin pattern. Go slower then you think you should. It will be great.

I lied to ya Scott. Consistency of signal is NUMBER TWO with the E-Trac. You've already stated number one with "I'm in this for the long run". Your attitude is the upmost importance to your sucess! Keep going. By the way, my first hunt with the E-Trac was in a small park. I only found a few memorials and mabe a clad dime. This is the exact same park I've pulled 20 or so wheats, V nickel, Barber dimes, Merc's, IH's and my only seated dime. And I've only hunted that park 4 times.

Thanks again guys for all the advice. It's kind of weird to get to talk to all you guys.I have been looking to get an etrac since they came out but never had the money.I have read every post and watched every video i could find in that time so now it's like i'm talking to celebrities.I know that sounds funny but if you were into hockey (watched and read everything you could)and then you got to get advice from the pro's,that would be pretty cool.Well thats how it is for me and i really appreciate all the advice.I won't let you down.
Thanks again
Scott
